According to Wikipedia:

In January, 2005, Kaeding became only the second rookie in NFL history to attempt a potential game-winning field goal in the playoffs, in the 4th quarter or overtime. His attempt missed, and the Chargers lost in the wild card round to the New York Jets, who won the game on a Doug Brien field goal.

This would make Gostkowski the third rookie to try that.

But who's the first? [It's not Vinatraitor, since the Pats' 1996 playoff games weren't close.]

P.S. Now, all Kaeding needs to complete the hat trick is to blow a big kick against the Fins or Bills.

Off the top of my head, I'm guessing Jim O'brien, the kicker for the Colts in SB V who beat Dallas.

**That's the only Super Bowl ring, I saw close up and tried on....

Huh? Where was the potential game-winner?

Sorry temporary lapse of insanity. I misunderstood your question. Please disregard what I previously posted. :bricks:

Didn't the Bears' kicker make an overtime field goal a few hours earlier?

Maybe he's not a rookie but a second year player, although I thought he was a rookie.

Robbie Gould was in camp with us in 2005, went to the Ravens (I think?) then went to the Bears after their kicker went down. Bears beat Seattle this year on his kick, so yes, he was a second-year player.
