OT: Cowher expected to quit Steelers job

Steelers new HC should hire NEM as OC.

He would actually have some room to complain with that offense.

PFT is reporting that Dave Wannstedt is a candidate, hooray for that possibility...

Other candidates include Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz, a Pittsburgh native, and current offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt and offensive line coach Russ Grimm.

Though not mentioned by Bouchette, there is some buzz that former Steelers defensive coordinator and former Saints coach Jim Haslett will get serious consideration for the job, since he would be able to make good use of defensive personnel that was selected specifically for the 3-4, zone-blitzing scheme that the team has been using for years.

Another former Steelers assistant whose name is getting tossed around in his current locale is Bengals coach Marvin Lewis. Though Lewis is a Pittsburgh native and a member of Cowher's initial staff, we don't see Lewis returning to the 'Burgh, for two reasons. First, Lewis is under contract with one of the Steelers' arch-rivals for four more years. Second, Lewis has presided over a roster chock full of guys who have been on the wrong side of the law, something that will repel, not attract, the Rooneys or Steelers fans. Heck, when rookie receiver Santurdio was arrested twice in three weeks earlier this year, there was a strong outcry from the locals that the team should rescind their rights to the first-round pick.

I've always thought they looked remarkably alike. Maybe no one in Pittsburg would notice the difference.

Probably not news to most, but this article is confirming a search for a new HC in Steeltown.

Looks like our rival will remain dormant for a little while.

I'd agree-they have a lot to recover from and I'd imagine they won't be able to accomplish everything they need to by next season.
Worst decision was continuing to let Ben start despite the fact he sucked. Had Batch been allowed to start a few more games they might actually be chasing a WC right now-not that they'd go far but geezuz at least they'd end on a better note. What a year they've had,and that entire situation just makes me so grateful for the way the Patriot team is handled.

This situation in Pittsburgh is another reason why we should never take Kraft, Pioli and BB for granted - year in and year out they build a championship-caliber team. The Steelers went from going on an unprecedented Super Bowl run to looking for a new head coach WITHIN THE SAME CALENDAR YEAR - stunning.

Oh, no, Ferentz is another Belichick progeny:

Ferentz left Iowa to coach at the University of Maine in 1990. After three seasons of coaching the Black Bears to a combined 12-21 record, he was named the offensive line coach of the NFL's Cleveland Browns. Ferentz served under Bill Belichick in Cleveland and later followed the franchise to Baltimore when they became the Baltimore Ravens.

Exactly. Looking around the league we should be in awe of what our organization has managed to do,is still doing, and will continue to do.
History should look very kindly upon our franchise, not only for winning 3 in 5 but fielding a playoff team everytime. Amazing accomplishment. Thank You Patriots.

They're frauds and were escorted through the SB after Manning, the golden child choked, again. With it being in Detroit and Bettis retiring it was the feel good story. No one will ever convince me that game wasn't "officiated" with a bias to aiding the Sqeelers to a win.

Yes it was very sad. Borderline calls broke the back of the Seahawks.

I hadn't seen that shot Brady took before like that. "Spearing" by definition is illegal, I wonder why no fine or penalty.

As for Cowher, I always thought he should be called "Cow-Head". I like that Sgt. Slaughter impersonation he does. Just comical.

I am thinking that maybe stealing a SB will be such bad karma that the Stealers will have miserable seasons for a long time.

I just wanted to do a post, expressing my utmost respect for Cowher. He has led Pittsburgh to ELEVEN winning seasons in a league which is designed for parity. He is one heck of a coach and I certainly don't begrudge him the Superbowl win. He has consistently had to draft in the bottom half, but still turned out a Championship team. That is impressive.
I hope he gets to enjoy some of the money he has accumulated because he, like every other coach in the NFL, has worked really hard for it.

Just a thought but how would Cohwer look as a Pats assistant coach? If anything "the Chin" should give the Pats an intimidation edge and might be worth the money. :robot:

He always appeared a strong leader, but, it seemed to me like he got a brain transplant or something last year. Prior to that, you could always count on him to pull some blunder or other that hurt his team.

I wouldn't call it "quitting" after 15 years. I'd say it was more like stepping down or aside. To be with a franchise for that long is pretty amazing in todays sports and although he was successful in winning his first superbowl {with a qb that had an all-time low 23.6 qb rating and help from the refs} I'll give him his due.

It really just shows how hard it is to win this thing and makes you appreciate BB and his coaching staff all the more.

Did I miss it or was **** Lebeau (the DC) not in the running re the Steelers HC job?
