Leading up to the NFL Draft, the Journal's Tom E. Curran will profile a player at a "need" position for the Patriots each day. New England has 10 picks in the draft, six in the first four rounds. Their first-round pick is the 21st overall. Profiles are based on our own analysis and interviews, various draft resources and Pro Football Weekly's 2006 Draft Preview book.

Today is LenDale White

Finally! Something worthwhile from the media.:eat1:

Yes! It's a good idea, just the kind of stuff I like to read. My hat is off to Tom Curran.

Mine too.

Covering the Patriots isn't easy -- they don't spend their time writing the stories for you -- so Tom is looking at it from the fans' point of view, asking what questions they would like to see asked and pursuing them rather than moaning about not getting enough inside information.

THE CONS

Doesn't have a great work ethic and has benefited from playing behind a tremendous offensive line and in an offense with multiple threats other than himself. Not a passionate pass blocker. Jury is out on how hungry he'll be when he gets to the league.

2 strikes right there. Not wanting to protect Brady's back-side is a bigger one than the first one because they said Woody didn't have great work ethic either and he seemed fine here.

one correction. The Patriots have 11 picks not 10 and not 12 as Felger said last night.

Tom has reall been stepping it up lately. He's been very visible on TV and has alot to say. My biggest downer with the draft analysts is that each profile is very generic.

It would be nice to see profiles of these players similar to how they might be viewed by Belichick. All the technical and the personal and how they might fit in with the Patriots. I haven't checked my ProJo yet...I'm hoping that's what I'll see.

Curran has been very consistent in his views of the Pats, he is not wishy washy or trying to get better ratings al a Felger.Enjoy hearing him speak, quite intelligent and makes a lot of sense.

:violent: Draft White, indeed.....

Until reading the article I would have agreed with you but the concern of not blocking well and not very passionate seems to have me believe the pats will go another way.
PLUS I am thinking that RB isn't a major need for them. Have a feeling they'll draft someone in the 3rd or 4th round at Rb but with the holes the team needs to fill, I think best player available will be used..

Great article and idea by Curran.. And I agree, finally something to read :)

Terrific idea...there's plenty of draft info out there, but players can look very different from a specifically Patriots perspective. I'll definitely be reading.

Not to leave you with a wrong impression, I haven't been part of the RB or bust crowd in the Draft forum. :snob:

If you were to eliminate every RB off your draft board whose "Weaknesses" consists of the line "needs work on pass protection" you'd have about 2 RBs leftover to choose from.

The majority of college RBs need to work on blocking. Its not that big of a knock.

True, but when your not a "passionate" pass blocker, I'm not a "passionate" draftnik. I don't mind a guy who is poor on his blitz pick-up and blocking technique, I do mind when they stop to powder their noses on the way.

I'm with you, it's more attitude than aptitude at this stage...several of the top RBs in this class seem to lose interest if the ball's not in their hands. Joseph Addai and DonTrell Moore are a couple of major exceptions.

Well, let's just hate to say I'd hate to write off Lendale White based off of a dratnik's word choice. ;)

A valid point, but ol' Len has been getting plenty of quizzical looks once the Rose Bowl euphoria wore off.
