Yeah, I think you can’t lose here.Curran knows his **** and has good sources.
Nonetheless, nothing he is saying is any kind of surprise to me.... (shrugs)
Our plan is two pronged:
1.) Take Daniels or Maye.
2.) Trade down for a Brinks truck type of haul.
Daniels has a high floor and his running ability lets you be competitive right away. He’s a proven leader. If he is able to threaten teams with throws over the middle effectively and scramble to throw more instead of always scrambling to run, he will be very good. But at a minimum he will be decent, low chance of bust.
Maye has a sky high ceiling, he can do almost everything, his issue is that sometimes he just screws up and he has some footwork and tendency issues that need cleaning up. For all we know he may have already cleaned up some of that. If he’s able to hit his potential or even 75% of his potential he will be very good, elite even. He does have much higher bust risk than Daniels but you can’t fault them for taking the chance. If he busts, hey, you’re at the top of the draft again and you can try all over.
I personally wouldn’t hate McCarthy either as I think he has a higher floor than Maye but ceiling is also likely to be lower. Hard to say though due to less reps. I think it’s unlikely he’s actually the pick.
If they do get an insane ransom offer - like 11 and 23 from Minnesota plus Justin Jefferson plus their 2026 first, or let’s say, five firsts from the Raiders plus a 2nd this year or just something wacky, yeah take that and build up the team first, take a QB later in the draft. After next year’s draft with this many high picks you’ll probably be competitive even with a lesser QB, and you can target a guy you love later with your mega haul of picks then.
Absent a haul that big, take the QB.
