Patriots Rumors: Eliot Wolf ‘Pushing Hard’ For This QB Prospect

If the Pats take JJ I have no issue with that. He's very young, very talented and could easily be molded into something. Played in big games, played in the cold. I'd be excited with the pick BUT at #3? He might be gone by pick #4.
It would shake things up because if you take him at 3 that means one of Daniel’s or Maye is sitting at 4 or lower.

I an unsettled about who to take at three... I really have doubts about the contenders - Maye & Daniels... I would prefer Daniels, but I think Washington is going to take him at 2.

If the plan is to sit the new quarterback regardless, then sure, why not, draft a project... We brought Biscuit back for a bridge year, right?

Might as well use the high pick for a foundation piece (Left Tackle) or trade down and amass picks to fill more holes with quality rookie depth... Spend the year developing JJ & the new additions... isn't that the strength of Mayo? player development? Then lets put that to the test. Until he proves differently, I trust in his ability to coach guys up. Has done a great job on the defensive guys, don't doubt his ability to do the same with offensive players.
Great post taking a QB is risk either way but people are getting too caught up with J Daniels slender frame. Daniels looks like the most Impactful QB in this Draft he'll be ready from Day 1 believe that really hoping the Commanders pass on him.

i think Washington adding Kingsbury as the OC pretty much cements that pick... Much better fit for what he does than Maye

Keep in mind that whoever the Patriots draft to play QB will need to watch from the sidelines for most of his first year due to the fact that even the new coaches do not know the new scheme let alone the players.

And Daniels is already older than the others, and the Pats are not built to compete next year.

Another reason why Daniels is my least liked of the top four, along with his slight frame and inability to throw to the middle of the field.

There's a lot of pressure on this regime to get this right. If they miss, they'll all be out of a job and you'll be another rebuild 3 years from now. They cannot afford to miss.

Double dip for good measures I think some of the second tiers will pan out. I think Penix Jr - Rattler and Pratt could pan out.

I don't know enough about any of the QBs to know if this is good or bad. I just hope that if they take JJ McCarthy, they have traded back and picked up at least another first rounder if not two in the process. Drafting him at #3 seems a bit high.

he’s going top 6 at worst.
He’s a late riser for good reason.
He has all the tools you look for.

Totally agree in other news Penix Jr had a fine pro day.

Daniels is going to play with less talent next year in the NFL than he did last year in college. When he opted out of his bowl game, his backup threw for 395 yards and 3 touchdowns. I find that concerning especially since he wasn’t considered much of a prospect after his first four years of starting in college.

Stay far away.

I hate late risers. They tend to rise late because of things that are not due to their actual skill set or play on the field. Most of the 2021 QB first round draft class were all late risers. Guys like Jones, Fields, and Lance were not even in the first round in a lot of mock drafts before the Combine.

McCarthy could be the exception, but I am always nervous with these late risers.

What if....it winds up being the 20th ranked QB in the 3rd year after sitting the 1st year. Still a 10-15th ranked defense, too.

maybe its the right decision to punt on a QB this year? to take a developmental pick?

If things don't pan out, chances are you are back at the top of the draft anyways... might have more options
