Player Signing Pats sign Jacoby Brissett

Sorry but I disagree. There’s nothing wrong with a rookie QB sitting behind a veteran for a year while learning the ropes of a NFL QB.

Now if the rookie kills it in camp, give him a shot and keep Brissett as an experienced QB2 for a year. We got him for 8M which is nothing for a vet QB.

I don’t see this how this is a negative in any way.

Because in today's NFL if a #3 OA pick can not beat out Jacoby Brissett he's in trouble.

Even Mac beat out Cam.

Can you imagine Brissett beating out Stroud last year?

Awesome bridge QB for the rookie, great locker room guy, solid if not overly explosive... but doesn't turn the ball over and understands the game.

He can show the young kid how to prepare like a pro, and is tough as nails so he's a good role model.

As with today's other signings, what's really not to like? The money is reasonable and doesn't prevent other options. Add in Brissett is a well liked and respected genuine good dude who will pay dividends in making New England more appealing to others from a team environment standpoint

I really dislike this move. It's too safe and signals two things: Mayo/Wolf are content with being mediocre at best this year and either Maye or Daniels will be taken at No. 3.
Or McCarthy. I know mentioning his name with the other 2 will rile up some folks in here.

I think it's okay . The more ibthink about it , without a qb you are nothing as long as mahomes is there . Last 7 superbowls won by Brady and mahomes. Which means you need to be able to compete at that level of QB greatness to win it all. And one ring was gifted to nick foles by belichick by benching butler else it's 8 by Brady and mahomes and 1 by Peyton manning with stud defense and 1 by stafford.

I was wondering if it had like a million or 2 in terms of incentives.
In terms of cap number, it doesn't matter if it's incentives or guarantees, it's only one year, and will only count to this year's cap. The only person is matters to is Bob Kraft in terms of actual cash spending.

It's negative because if the 3rd pick in the draft isn't quickly better than Jacoby Brissett who loses 2 out every 3 games he plays in the NFL then you have problems, sitting in theory sounds ideal especially for a project like Maye but the 3rd pick in the draft should be better than Brissett in very short order.

It's much easier to sit a quarterback when the team is competitive and winning games, i just don't see how this team with 18-30 Jacoby Brissett is going to be competitive he was 4-7 with Cleveland in 2022 with a far superior roster.

All of these plans go out of the window as soon as the losses start piling up and the QB position is contributing to it.

This is like when the Patriots drafted Mac Jones, if he wasn't better than the corpse of Cam Newton then you immediately had problems.

Very good article. Thanks for posting it.

He will probably be automatically disliked by some on here for beating Tom Brady and the Bucs in that last start.

This comment about the defense being the problem made me wonder if his W-L record might be a bit misleading. Even here he’s coming into a situation where the team surrounding him may not be capable of putting up lots of W’s no matter how well Jacoby himself plays.

…thinking that maybe a team that hung in there through a 3–7 start—during which the defense, not the offense, was the problem—would build some momentum with Brissett in time for Watson’s return.

Now just need a vet WR1 and on to the draft.

Never forget, JimmyG wouldn't play with a sore back... Brissett played with a torn finger ligament in his throwing hand.
Thumb, specifically. How he managed to take snaps all night was impressive.

He's the best QB the Patriots will be running out there since Tom Brady. I don't care if he sucks, we can run the whole damn playbook again.
No hes not

I don't know what you guys have been watching but that is just not true.
