Well? You assured us Mac would be the starter on Day 1. What happened? I thought Bob/GM was running the show.

People keep writing that the Steelers are great at drafting receivers. But they have more misses than hits.

2022, 2nd round, George Pickens
2020, 2nd round, Chase Claypool
2019, 2nd round, Diontae Johnson
2018, 2nd round, James Washington
2017, 2nd round, JuJu Smith-Schuster
2015, 3rd round, Sammie Coates

Hitting on 40-45% of your early round WR picks is great for the NFL. The league average is around 33%.

Guregian has an article on Masslive that is behind paywall, and no way am I paying for Masslive. However the question is the critical question for their future, will Kraft let Wolf build them to contender status the right way, or is it going to be win one for Bob before he dies. If it’s the latter then they are completely screwed, as that just doesn’t happen, and they will blow all of their resources and dig a big old hole for themselves if they try to do that. But we will know soon enough, because if Baker Mayfield or Russell Wilson walks through that door then that’s exactly what they will be trying to do, and it will be decades before they ever win a Lombardi again.

You are concerned that the Pats are going to blow a lot of cash in 2024? You can rest easy.

I’m not concerned about them spending, I’m concerned that they are going to try and go quick fix, sign a mediocre QB like Mayfield, and overpay receivers in the slim hope they could make a playoff run for Bob before he moves on. If they start going down that road they will be completely ****ed for years to come. Kraft is 83, and if he starts making the football decisions so he can take a long shot at Lombardi then it will take years to recover from that.

I guess it depends on their evaluation of the QB prospects. If they flat out don't believe that Maye or Daniels can be "the guy," what would you have them do?

I don't think there's any doubt Kraft wants to win a playoff game since he's said it the last two seasons. If they can sign a Cousins or Mayfield to be QB1, they can then have all options open in the draft from picking MHJ, to trading back for a boat load of top 100 picks to fill the offensive positions (LT, WR, TE, RB) that are lacking. Either way, that could also achieve the long term team building approach by drafting young talented players (assuming they hit, of course).

I have no idea what the best approach would be because it 100% depends on the top 3 QBs. I don't have the expertise to evaluate college QBs, so all I can do is offer opinions based on evaluations by others. I'm going to choose to trust AvP, Wolf and Mayo to make the right decisions because that's what they're getting paid to do.

This

Mike Onwenu? Demario Douglas? Isaiah Bolden looked very good for a 7th until he got hurt.
So many misses on day 2 and 3
The drafts have been bad

They always pull that kind of ****, then they pretend they never wanted that.
You wont have Corky Mac around anymore.

Not the recent ones. Any objective measure of the last 4 shows that they hit on 3 or 4 players in these drafts, which is a good ratio. Here are all the players who have joined: Onwenu, Anfernee, Uche, Dugger, Rham, Barmore, Marcus Jones, Zappe and Harris are backups, which tracks for where they were picked, Gonzalez, Keion, Sow, Douglas.

We're still waiting to see how Mapu, Andrews, Mafi & Roberts pan out.

The scouts blew it on Mac, Belichick didn't want him. What a waste. Strange we're still waiting on, Jack Jones had a 2 cent head but was hugely talented for a 4th rounder.

At the end of the day, they picked 12 starting caliber guys in 4 years, 2 backups, and 5 guys who we're still wondering about.

BB would have got more than Flea market 99Kraft recieved for the 15th pick in 2021. My boy Mac is worth more. Awful trade.

The Jaguars are on the Pats 2024 schedule.

It’s ok to say we were wrong about Mac and he’s a career backup with a attitude issue and is soft minded.
