Steve Belichick interviewing for College Job

Based on what? He didn't get a DC gig this season? Well then obviously a **** ton of coaches are just nepo babies. Based on that criteria.

Again who gives a **** and why?

Overwhelmingly, the people whining about nepotism are typically jealous folks who are unpleased with their station in life.
Are you a nepo baby? Is that why you are so offended?

You can wait as many years as you want, nobody will take the risk of making Steve a DC in the NFL without him proving himself independent of his father. The consequences is them losing their job if he turns out to suck. Nobody will stick their neck out that far.

I find it fascinating how there are alway those who take it so personally the few times I mentioned this. it is very much obvious to see.

I don't think Kraft was offering titles... I do think he was offering cash & promises of future employment (the names successor clause) in order to get Mayo to stay... did basically the same thing with McDaniels a few years ago... and yes, I think McDaniels had the successor clause added to his deal after turning down the colts...
I bet McDaniels is shaking his head taking that Raiders job. He would've been the HC today of the Pats.

Oh there is plenty of nepotism in the NFL. But probably none of those spent their entire career playing for their father.

Nobody is going to take a risk and give Steve a DC job in the NFL; not until he proves himself on his own.
no one is disagreeing that it would be beneficial for him to step out on his own.

but the nepotism angle is just a red herring... i don't think nfl teams care about that at all.

But getting a job elsewheres? probably a good idea. It may open more doors for him in the future. hope it does. he's a good coach.

It may not have been Bill's decision. Phil Perry mentioned that Mayo was offered the DC title last offseason (probably by Kraft) to lure him back in addition to being the successor. Mayo declined it because if Bill was still the Coach, Mayo could only leave if he was hired elsewhere as a HC.
I would be shocked if it was not. It is very well documented that Bill does not like giving out DC/OC titles.

Nope the exact opposite. Grew up in the Prospect Hill projects in Waltham in the 80's and 90s. Now doing just fine in life.

Not offended, I can't stand people whining about things that simply boil down to jealousy. It's pathetic.

Are you not where you want to be in life so therefore are bothered about how others came about opportunities? Is that why nepotism bothers you so much?

It'll never happen for Steve. The thing people refuse to acknowledge is how much Bill shielded him. When Patricia left, Bill paired him w/ BFlo. BFlo was the alpha. When BFlo left, Bill paired him with Mayo. Mayo was the alpha.

I'm not saying Steve isn't bright or that he doesn't know football from a coaches perspective, but the fact is he's a weird dude. Played lacrosse in college. Never coached in college (like so many other nepos did). Bill wanted him paired w/ BFlo and Mayo so that they interacted w/ the players during team meetings. Steve couldn't do it. There's all types of people. Steve is more of an introvert, nerd type that has nothing in common w/ the players. The players would eat him alive in a team meeting. He'll never be a DC in the NFL. Maybe in college. We'll see.

I'm honestly not seeing any interest in him from any NFL team. If there were any, this was the season to do it with all the changes in HCs and coaches around the league. Unless, Bill gets a HC job in '25, he may be permanently relegated to the college ranks.

It's possible, I suppose. But, if he succeeds in college, I can't see how teams wouldn't be interested in him at some point. He'd already have NFL experience with a decent defensive unit on a crumbling team. I guess time will tell.

Not enough to just hate Bill, Stephen is 36 he can coach college for a few years to make a little bit of his own name and then make a run at DC in the pros in his 40s.

Hard to say, the offense might have stayed steady with McDaniels and Bill might have taken him more seriously if he was complaining about talent. But yeah. Josh made a huge mistake If he waited 2 years, he would have been the heir apparent here. But he basically had the exact same result with the Raiders that he had in Denver. So he's never getting a HC career and he's just viewed as toxic and probably will only ever get a job if Bill gets a job (which isn't looking all that great right now).

Josh is a ****ty HC though, so this was a good thing anyways.

Nepotism bothers me because it's unfair to those are victims of it. It should bother everybody.

It also brings ****ty results. The fact that Mayo got chosen as HC and Steve is leaving while someone else got DC speaks volumes.

Tbh I think the only reason Mayo didn't have the DC title is because it would have minimized Steve's work on defense and his dad didn't want that. Most players basically acted like Mayo was the real DC anyways.

It is best they both move on ... deep friendship and suddenly he's your boss ... not a good situation. The organization needs to move on and that includes Bob ... nothing is forever ... but fans need to remember we are 1 of 32. Competition for resources is fierce ... long marriage will take a few years to resolve ... be thankful.

BB screwed him in some ways without giving him the DC title.
Mayo would have been the DC for another team if Bill named his son as DC.

Also, Mayo didn't want the title. That way, if Kraft didn't name his HC when the time came, he could look for a HC elsewhere as a promotion, and if that failed he could take a DC job as a promotion without team permission.

Why does everything need to be equated to hate w/ you guys. I always try to look at things objectively. You read, you observe and analyze. That's what men do. Not create a fantasy based on idolizing other men.

Kraft wouldn't have paid him as much and he'll be cashing those checks for years.
Agreed.

I suspect set himself and family up for a long time with Raiders money. And waiting to accumulate the same money working for Kraft might have taken a very long time.

Wasn't he the highest paid OC while he was here? Where is this coming from?

OK, I'm willing to be corrected.

How much of a raise did Josh get from LV over how mny years. How long do you think that it would have taken to make that here? And BTW, how much is Kraft paying the new OC compared to what Josh was making in LV?
==============
But, let's be clear, I would have been very happy to see Josh back as Assistant Coach and OC.

I don't understand what you don't understand. I don't like nepotism on my sports team and it has nothing to do with my station in life and it didn't help me retire at age 58 after 43 years of working. It has to do with my team winning or losing.

I look at coaches vs players the same way as I look at actors vs writers. Just about anyone can learn to become a football coach but only a small number of people can become a player. Actors vs writers is the same thing. I've seen hundreds if not thousands of child actors but never a child writer. Writing is where the true talent is.
