Mayo's Coaching Staff [Discuss Coaching Candidates Here!]

Or Mac Jones...
(Had to be said - all the crap that's come out seems to be saying htat Mac had something that was ruined. If this is Kraft-inspired, then he (they) might want to give Mac another year.)
No wonder nobody will accept the job.

I'm not optimistic about us keeping Onwenu. A big mistake.
With rookie qb and new OC, OL is the most important unit. More important than wrs though we need them, too.
This one of Bill's worst GM failures. The team is in the position of wanting to spend $20 AAV on an all-pro quality RG and then play him at tackle. Sadly, this may be the right thing to do, if Onwenu will even stay, given his other offers.

For two years our GM/HC and his hired help at HC, OC and OL Haave mad a horrible mess of the situation at OT. Of course, the injuries made the situation worse. But it hard to completely blame the injuries when little was done after the injuries/illnesses were known.

If Mac is coming back, even as a #2 or #3, it is critical for Josh to be our OC or at least a senior assistant. As we all should know by now, we are waiting to see if Bill gets on of the last HC jobs.

By the time the injuries piled up, there was nothing to be done. Almost every fanbase in the league is complaining about their OL - it seems like the better athletes have run to the DL in colleges.

You're really absolving Belichick of blame? Get real, that's not a serious take.

As for the OL there was a report that they didn't intend to resign Onwenu. If that's the case our line ****ed. I'm going by that for now until we go ahead and show an intention resign him.
They did everything to undercut the guy. The toxicity came from torpedoing the guy running the team.

But generally DLs have always been better athletes than OLs. OL is mostly a thankless and physically demanding job.

IMO, this is utter and complete nonsense.

First you might compare us to the 2022 HOU team.
=======
But, let's have the discussion again that we've had on 100 threads. And, yes we obviously disagree.
============
1) First, I would note that we were in the playoff picture through the last couple of game for the three years AB, even in the playoffs for one of those years.

2) We have analyzed the 2023 season before, during and after. Even ignoring the many, many injuries, for much of the season we believed that the two KEYS to our failure to be a playoff contender were QB play and OT play. And, of course, we needed a top receiver to be contender to go deep into the playoffs.

3) I won't use a wish list of free agents. We all have our favorites.

4) Our cap money (plus Jackson's money) is enough to re-sign our free agents and to sign a Tannehill type QB, a starting WR. a FS and an OT or two.

5) We can use our first 4 draft picks to fill in our needs and OT (and perhaps even a WR). More likely is one defensive pick. We need future help on the DL and at CB.

6) A wildcard is the open question of whether Kraft will allow the team to defer the "normal" percentage of contract accounts to the future.
That is the "magic" of the cap that cause so many to think that it doesn't matter. It certainly does matter. The patriots simply make poor use of it.

CONCLUSION
With Tannehill (or equivalent) starting for most of the season, we can be a contender for the playoffs in 2024. Yes, the issue is INDEED a 3 year plan to get deep into the playoffs and have a team that might contend for the AFC championship. That does indeed 3-4 years, barring a very good pick.
I'm confused. Based on #5 you are saying don't use any of the first four picks on a QB? And bring in a Tannehill-level QB, assuming there is one?

It's important to list which QB you think that should be for your plan to be viable and whether said QB is even worth the money it will take to get him. The only decent option in my book is to trade for Justin Fields.

Your plan hinges on them resigning Onwenu (which is in question from reports) and nailing at least two OL picks including tackle.

Get on with it, fercrissakes. You're a "nice guy" and Big Boss (or "Tiger Fella" or whatever the f you call him.) adores you. Got it. DO something.

We should panic hire Josh McDaniels now to satisfy clown Thelonious.

No to McDaniels. I am ready to move on from our old offensive system and all of its tweaks over the years. Not even as an assistant HC. Josh lost the locker room with two different teams and Mayo is all about relating to today's players...for better or worse.

Said nothing about Josh. Maybe have Mom vet your facts before you post.

Maybe, just maybe, these ideal OC candidates aren't going to take us up on a quick offer that you are demanding.

This....since we have moved on from he whos name we shall not say, we need to start keeping homegrown talent like Onwenu. They've repeatedly screwed the pooch by letting them go over the years and since this is a new regime...how about starting with making the change that we try and KEEP homegrown guys? For ****s sake...

I did not "demand quick action. I'll settle for a little effective effort. The jury in my mind is out on Mayo's actual abilities - nice guy drivel aside. Ditch the PR ******** and get busy.

I've fixed the typo.

We need to fix our needs at qb and OT within the first 4 picks. I expect that we draft a Qb with one of the first 5 picks, although I suppose 6 or 7 is possible. The team may be picking between Daniels and Nix.

My ire is for Kraft if they don't bring back Onwenu. I believe Mayo is more than happy to spend. Hopefully its not Groh/Wolfe who think that would be an okay thing to let him walk. I'd be losing a lot of faith moving forward if that's the case.

What makes you think he isn't?

I'm good with that. I do think we should draft Jayden Daniels but wonder if its at all possible to move down and still get him with extra draft capital. Might be a risk of another team jumping up though.

He has interviewed a boat load of candidates, almost all of them who have experience in the McVay coaching tree. And there's a good chance they have made offers. So you are full of crap for saying there is no effort being made.

Apparently, we can't get any one after the middle of camp better than Love and McDermott, not even for a 2nd or 3rd draft choice.

If that is the case, we should come out of free agency with at least three OT's but better than Brown, Anderson and Reiff.
