DRAFT Patriots select WR Tyquan Thornton at 50.

Jakobi Meyers
Really? Jakobi was a UDFA who was just developing. During a year in which 4 OL were hurt and Marshall Newhouse was the LT. Meyers and Brady barely even saw the field together.

Good question, but kind of missing my reasoning.... Ochocinco, Galloway, Wayne, Holt, Demaryius Thomas, Collie... I'm guessing they don't count even if some of them had good recent production, because they went into retirement shortly after. Sanu.... Gaffney actually had his worst years with Brady. But that's not the point.

I think you mistake my reasoning as saying that a lot of guys suffered from playing with Brady. For the most part receivers were able to have the same production. Because Brady is the best QB that ever lived, I'm saying that the best receivers were able to get on the same page as him and have the best production of their careers. If you are playing with the GOAT and your production isn't significantly better, then IMO you aren't fitting into his game, but he'll still use you.

I'm concentrating on the receivers that did better with him than with other teams, not the other way around.

Mac has a different style and I'm hoping Thornton is his kind of receiver.
Good point about Gaffney, he was off my radar. But I seem to remember he came cheap. Regardless, I can see why he only had 38 catches on that historic offense. He was an afterthought when you account for all the balls caught by Moss, Welker, Stallworth, Watson and Faulk. The only reason I answered was because I don't really believe the Patriots need any kind of mind melding receiver to play in this offense. It seems everyone who can play in the NFL has picked it up.

Thornton seems natural getting off the line, accelerates and cuts well, and has a lot of room to go being 20 years old. If you want high upside and speed, that is what we now have. The same coaches that picked Stevenson picked Thornton and Strong. We will see but I think there is a new draft sheriff in town and I like what he is doing.
Will be interesting to see what he can do with a hungry Qb=Mac Jones, a very good running game, Bourne and Henry. Watched as many highlights as I could find and if he was hit in stride regularly he could of had an even better season.

Yes his college QB was no where near the level of Mac. I can not predict whether Thornton will succeed or not, but I can say watching Thornton's highlights is nothing like watching Michel or Harry's highlights. I am excited, I do not remember a guy like this since Moss.

Few days of YouTube Scouting and scouring articles/projections.

Sounds like/looks like we got the off brand Jameson Williams. Which I'm more than ok with.

Well Bethel did catch the big touchdown against the Titans in the playoffs.....
He also had a real big kickoff return for a TD at Indy. Man that was a long time ago.

You just brought me back...in a room..4 buddies.. empty beer cans. Amazing game.

2 of my buddies no longer with us. We celebrated hard that day. Great game.

Idiots here will still WHINE that they should have taken someone else, cuz they know more about the team than Bill....Bill is an idiot ad nauseum....it's tiresome...
Belichick is not above criticism. Nobody is. If I had him in front of me now I'd grab him by his collar, shake him and ask him wtf were you thinking with that 4th and 2 at Indy. :)

great pick
i just couldn't believe we traded up for a WR, certainly did not expect it after i saw the trade but was super excited.
I think this is exactly the type of WR we need. A field stretcher, possible playmaker, open things up for our MOF guys.

Boy, the Harry guy is renting space in a lot of our heads going into year 4. It’s really just time to move on from him and turn the page. I wanted Brown and I think Manxman who is the best wr evaluator on Patsfans converted many of us to his binkie. I gave Harry the benefit of the doubt and drank the koolaid hoping he’d be star. Didn’t happen and it was a wasted pick they are never getting back.

I like the pick of Thornton. Gonna drink the koolaid again and hope for the best. This time though we have a guy with elite+ speed and the old saying speed kills is applied to almost every sport nowadays. If his bottom ceiling is bethel johnson than that sucks. If his middle is devery henderson/will fuller I can live with that, if he takes the NFL by storm like Tyreek, Metcalf, Brown, Jefferson than there is going to be a lot of eating crow by some fans. I’m sure they wouldn’t mind at all if that happens.
As far as drafting Harry vs Brown or Deebo, we obviously would've been much better off the past 3 years if we'd made a different pick, but at this point we'd be parting ways with Brown/Deebo due to salary demands. The damage phase of the Harry pick is over, it's time to look forward.

As far as Thornton, I don't know how the draftniks overlooked this guy. 4.28, 6'2", proven production, obvious WR skills. No way in the world this guy gets past the 2nd round.

He goes from zero to flying in a flash, and he makes it look quite effortless. This gem needs a little polish, he looks like he'll run down Mac's long passes in stride. His hands may be small, but he grabs the ball out of the air quite easily, he has good and strong small hands.

Not sure if anyone has brought this up already but Jameson Williams is 6'2" and 179 pounds.

Uh.... are we making way too much about this 181 pounds thing for Thornton?
Guys like AB, Emmanuel Sanders, Lamb, Waddle & Cooks are all between 180-189. Thornton will gain strength & be fine. He’s already pretty good with his release off the line. Hell, Devonta Smith is 170-175. Relax..
