Keep Brady for this year.
Get some WR help.
Trade Gilmore to a bottom of the barrel team for a 1st round pick.
Sign AJ Bouye, who is rumored to soon be released.
Use Belichick Dark Magic™ to turn AJ Bouye into the best CB in the league, like he did with Gilmore.
Win Super Bowl LV.

Draft Joe Burrow in next year's draft using the 1st round pick acquired in the Gilmore trade.
Watch the fanbases of the lesser 31 commit suicide as The Dynasty extends its reign under the future GOAT.

Definitely agree with drafting Joe Burrow next year.

think 'Being John Malkovich' except with Brady

Feb 25 start of franchise tag window. It’ll be awfully interesting if Titans and Bucs don’t use it. I think it’s Patriots heavy favorites, Titans with a decent chance and Bucs the dark horse.

I’m coming around to the idea that the only way to improve the offense - to an acceptable level - is to trade Gilmore. But it needs to be for a known commodity. Can’t trade the reigning DPOY for a mere chance at a good player. Gilmore for Hopkins is a trade I like and don’t think is that insane. Houston would have a transformed defense with Gilmore and still have playmakers to move the ball. Patriots would have a greatly improved offense instantly and could still field a pretty good secondary.

Lawrence. Trade great players for future 1sts, tank then rise like a mofo Phoenix.

Why tank for Lawrence if we’re going to have a crack at Burrow next year?

Can we just put weapons around Stidham and Sign Mariota as a free agent please that truly makes the most sense.

I suspect you think Mariota will cost less than he actually will cost.

Trading Gilmore would result in a $15.3 million dead cap hit, which is more than Hopkins' salary in 2020. The trade makes sense for neither team. Hopkins is probably the best receiver in the league and on a team-friendly deal (his cap hit is a mere $14m this year, lower than players like TY Hilton, Allen Robinson, or Jarvis Landry's for the same remaining length of the deal). The Texans are a playoff team. Hopkins isn't going anywhere.

It's possible Mariota signs for a deal similar to Tannehill or Keenum (so one year for $7-8m). QB contracts are a bit odd, there's a big gap between the lowest 'starting QB' money ($16m this past season to Dalton) and the highest 'backup QB' money (around $10m), probably because you can't really afford both a pricey starter and a backup.

Bump to this thread. We need all Brady threads active.

I just hope and pray we are not cheering for friggin Andy Dalton come September!

Well never mind then.

Is Hilton or Robinson that good? No way I’d trade anything of value for Landry.

Question, with the dead cap at 15mill and his cap hit at 18 million while Hopkins cap hit is 14mill, does that mean we’d be paying 14mill plus the 15mill dead cap so 29mill for Hopkins? And it says we have 3 mill in cap savings if we trade Gilmore where does that money go to our cap space for Hopkins ?

And at the trade deadline it was said Hopkins was available for a big price. I think the DPOY would be enough for a team with good WRs and need of defensive help

Can’t believe this is actually not a crazy idea. I personally think it’d be crazy, but I also believe BB would go this route.

Again, not a fan, BUT Dalton is steady, he doesn’t blame his teammates, he loves football, he’d put in the time & effort, he’d be accurate enough to tempt BB.
