How did you become a Pats fan?

Well, I'm 34 and from Canada, so up here people tend to pick a team, sometimes at random. haha.
For instance, I have two older brothers, one is a Bills fan and the other, a 49ners fan. Others tend to gravitate to the closest NFL team. In my home province of Manitoba, many are Packers or Viking fans. (lots of season ticket holders to the Vikings) Or in Alberta and B.C. there are lots of Seattle fans.

But for me, when I was 11 and didn't really have an NFL team, but then Drew Bledsoe was drafted and I liked his name, so I chose the Patriots and haven't looked back.

P.S. I don't like to say it, but for a VERY brief time before that I may have said the............*shudder*...........the Jets.
But before I get roasted, you should know, I'm from Winnipeg and I was only 10-11 and it was ONLY because of they had the same name as the Winnipeg Jets.

10 years old, turned on the TV Patriots were losing to the Dolphins, decided to root for the team that was losing.

This was the year the Pats went to the SB for the first time and beat the Dolphins @ Orange stadium in the process. If the Dolphins had been losing I would have rooted for them....good god. Mere happenstance saved me from being a Phins fan.

Started following the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics, and Bruins when I was in second grade. In third grade, I had Jim Cheyunski's wife as a student teacher (he was a Senior at Syracuse), and I remembered asking her if she was married to the guy the Boston Patriots had just drafted in the 1968 draft. She said yes, and her husband became one of my favorite players. I guess this was my first crush (yes, she was quite pretty).

I was 11 in 1993. My parents didn't watch ANY sports at the time. Nowadays there is a TV in every room of the house, but back in '93 most houses (like mine) only had 1 TV. As such, I didn't have any exposure to the NFL.

But during a family party during the holiday season my uncle had the game on. He was extremely into it since he had some money on the game. I watched it with him and was hooked ever since.

Was born in Quincy in 69, and lived in Hull until the blizzard of 78 made the decision for us to move down to New Orleans, so I was born with Sox, B's, C's, Pats blood. I got to meet Steve Grogan at a Jaycees charity basketball game around 75.

Funny though, i've seen countless Saints games live, but have never seen my Pats. That's going to change this year when they come to the dome. There's no way i'm not going to see the GOAT in person. Very exciting indeed.

Don't remember much about that day, but when the first game I ever watched was the snow bowl against the raiders I was 6, almost 7. I rooted for the blue team. Even if they lost that game they'd be my favorite team. Thank god I didn't become a fan of the white team. They were polar opposites for a while

Reminds me of the most popular journey of becoming a Pats fan. It was a long jouney, but one that's been well documented...

(Notice it was a Green lightsaber that eventually beat him down.)

I was born in Indiana before the Colts moved there. NFL football was not big there, so I was not much of a fan. I went to graduate school at Yale in the mid-80s and had a roommate who was a diehard Pats fan. I become somewhat attached during the 1985 season, despite the pounding by the Bears.

Then I moved to Massachusetts in 1995 and grew gradually as a fan, in the Parcells era. Though I moved to Florida in 2005, I have remained a fan, of course.

The year was 1960 and I was 11 years old. My Dad came home with a copy of the Boston Record American, he was all excited and said "We're going to have our own Pro Football team". That was all I needed...! Since then I've followed them everywhere I've ever lived- in the Air Force in Spain, in Colorado for 12 years and in Indiana for the past 30 - always a Pats fan...!
I think it was announced in 1959 that the Boston Patriots would be one of the teams in the brand new American Football League. Nitpicking on you there. I was a fan from day 1. According to Pro Football Reference, the Pats played their home games on Friday night in 1960. Forgot that.

Michigan fan, loved Brady, hated Henson, followed the team that drafted him in hopes of seeing him play a few games or in garbage time before he got cut and started selling insurance full time.

I was raised in Puerto Rico til I was 12 before I moved up to VA Beach with my dad. Didn't even know football existed til the Patriots-Eagles Super Bowl. In VA there are a lot of Eagles fans, plus everyone already developed Patriot Envy Syndrome by 2004-2005 so to go against the grain I said "Go Patriots, whatever." They won, and I didn't really care. I just kinda called myself a Pats fan.

I didn't start religiously watching Pats football til I grew out of my WWE stage and the first game I think I truly watched as a real Pats fan was the 05 Wildcard game against Jacksonville. Since then I have never missed a Pats game (though I've had to follow quite a few on the ESPN gamecast).

Think I started watching with my dad as a kid in 2003. Sadly missed out on the first run. These last two SBs I've cherished a lot more than the two I saw when I was just a kid.

Born and raised in Queens NY. During the 1970's, while growing up a Jet's fan in a Jet's household, used to watch NFL Films with my dad every Saturday night, I believe it was called This Week in The NFL (Pat Summerall and Tom Brookshier). They had a segment about Mack Heron in 1974. I was playing Pop Warner football back then (I was 12 in 1974), and I gravitated towards Herron, because he was a small player (5'5" I believe), and I was never a big player, so I started liking the Pats. Became a full time fan in 1975, became a fanatic in 1976 (that's when my draft fanaticism started too). Have never looked back. Thanks Mack Herron ! I definitely expect the Mack Herron here on the board to say you're welcome.

born into it. like the bruins celtics and the flop sox. if it was on i was watching since 1970.

Born and raised in a town near foxboro. Got hooked in 1994 at age 7 when the patriots stormed back from 20-0 to defeat the highly touted Minnesota Vikings, in which Bledsoe attempted an NFL record 70 passes. Still to this day one of the best performances from an NFL QB I have ever seen. It sparked an amazing season going from 3-6 to 10-6, to qualify for the postseason for the first time in 8 years.

I think I was 7, playing madden and just loved their badge and the love has never stopped

Darth Vader came down from planet Vulcan and told me if I don't become a Patriots fan he will melt my brain. (I wonder if anyone gets the reference)

Real reason? Dad was so I am. Also born and raised in the area and happy to be a fan of this team. If I could now pick any team to be a fan of it be this one cause not only are they very good but they deal with a lot of unfair bs and hate and I kinda dig that honestly.

Grew up in Baltimore in the 50's, parents big Colts fans, they had season tickets since they were in the AAFC, pre NFL. Mom got sick and gave her tickets up to my brother and me. We took turns going to the game with Dad. Sometimes, he would stay home with Mom and Rocky and I would go by ourselves. Can you believe a 12 and 10 year old, getting on a bus to go to a football game? But it was a different time then. My Mom and my brother died in the 70's so it was just my Dad and me carrying on the season tickets, despite Irsay's shenanigans. We got our heart ripped out in March 83 when the SOB moved the team to a no name city. I hadn't seen my Dad cry since my Mom and baby brother died. I moved to New Hampshire for work in the late 80's. My company had season tickets to all 4 teams, but the Pats tickets were hardly used. I loved football, and started watching the Pats on TV and always thought they had a chance in the early 90s. I went to several games with my company's un-used tickets, and I have to say I haven't missed watching a Pats game since then. I have moved multiple times, but the first thing I have to get set up after every move is directv so I can keep the sunday ticket. anyway, growing up in Baltimore, is similar to Boston. like Boston, we rooted for the home team and any team playing a NY team.....Now, I'm in North Carolina, but all our cars have Pats stickers and my workout gear at the YMCA celebrates an assortment of Pat's superbowl victories.

Back to the Future 4 life, bruh
