Walking through the details
Posted by Albert Breer at 8:31 pm
As you may know by now, these walkthrough are just a little less than fascinating, though it can be interesting (if you’re crazy like me) to watch plays develop at a slower speed, making each easier to identify without taking a second look at tape. Here’s some stuff until what promises to be a more eventful day tomorrow:
– All the PUP guys were, as we said, out there with the exception of Dave Thomas. So let’s run down what each of them did. WR Troy Brown, CB Eddie Jackson, WR Chad Jackson and DE Richard Seymour did just about nothing. Meanwhile, WR Donte’ Stallworth got work when the offense split off from the defense, seeing time with the first team, but was removed once 11-on-11s began.
– WR Randy Moss was in the same boat as Stallworth — there for offensive group work, but pulled for 11-on-11s.
– One thing that’s fun to watch during these practices is how intricate the situational work can get. Today, the Patriots practiced having the offense backed up against the goal line, failing to get out of said bad situation on third down, and hustling off the field with the punt team hustling on. They also worked on free kicks — which, if you don’t know, are the ones following a safety — with Danny Baugher taking them. There was also two-minute work in there, goal-line drills and a litany of logistical things like the above situation to prepare for Friday’s preseason opener.
– A funny moment came in 11-on-11s, when RT Ryan O’Callaghan was clearly guilty of a false start. S Rodney Harrison (who has considered a future as a ref) was not shy about blowing the whistle. “Oooohhhhh!” he yelled as pointed at O’Callaghan and tried to keep the snap from getting off.
Later tonight, we’ll wrap the day up with some stuff from Stallworth and other guys.
AND ONE MORE THING: The Patriots have put Wednesday’s schedule up, and it has an 8:45-10:45 a.m. practice and a 5:30-7:30 p.m. practice with the Patriots Experience running from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and 4-6 p.m. Scroll down for the rest of the plan.
