Re: BB A Football Life on NFl Network Official Thread

I think Deus was just giving himself a pat on the back because he was on the same page as Belichick.

Nothing wrong with that.

Re: BB A Football Life on NFl Network Official Thread

But thats where you have to listen the entire discussion. They discuss that they can now use the tag on Wilfork, in the same conversation as the Seymour deal being done. This confirms what many of us knew all along. They were going to need the tag for one or the other, and chose Wilfork. We couldn't keep them both.

AJ is right. That's how I heard it too.

Re: BB A Football Life on NFl Network Official Thread

Someone is still apparently butt-hurt over some argument they apparently had with some posters here 2 years ago. I find that funny.

I'm not sure how it's hypocritical to find that funny, but whatever you say. :)

Maybe hypocritical isn't the right word, but on the one hand you're finding it funny that Deus remembers conversations he had here two years ago - yet on the other hand, you & AJ are doing the exact same thing.

I just don't see anything wrong with Deus, or anyone, taking some justification in seeing Belichick acknowledge the offensive personnel problems the same way certain posters did during that season, whether it was two years ago or twenty. It's not really that absurd.

Anyone else think Belichick needs a bigger boat?

No offense but this doesn't make any sense. That's not what I'm finding funny and this thread is from yesterday, not 2 years ago. Maybe we should just leave this one alone. :)

Re: BB A Football Life on NFl Network Official Thread

I really enjoyed the documentary.

Ironically, as much as it was about BB, I think the most penetrating insight I got was watching Brady in his weekly meeting with BB, and in this particular instance they were discussing how to neutralize Ed Reed, and Brady suggested something to the effect of doing a flag off a cross route (if I got that right). As much as an homer it makes me seem- I feel it important to recognize that Brady isn't just physically dedicated to the game, but that he's also a lot smarter than people give him credit for- he is also cerebrally dedicated to the game to a level where he's able to influence the week to week design of the offense (coming up with a good idea to defeat Reed's uncanny ability to think like a QB)- in short, he is pretty much an OC, and is able to cerebrally look at the game at a level that is nearly on par to BB's (minus the 35 years of experience).

To me, that removes any question in regard to Brady's dedication to the game. He thinks about the game all the time, that much is obvious in that short segment which is my favorite, in that documentary.

I am looking forward to part 2, next Thursday.

Fair enough - as I still haven't taken the time to read the entirety of this thread, it's pretty possible I'm misunderstanding the situation, so I'm perfectly fine with moving on.

Good point - last week was the first time I felt the announcers (Gruden) giving Brady the credit he deserves in this aspect. Normally we get a caveat - "well, he's still not like Manning [calling his own plays]."

Equally important, I think that clip showed how Belichick works - and how different it is to perception. The BS notion that Belichick's tighter coaching staff was due to his desire to control and/or rely on his own football mind more doesn't resonate. He was very willing to take heed to Brady's thoughts on Reed. We also see time and again that BOB was the OC of this offense back then - as we knew - and had full control over it. BB is not spread too thin.

I think that us Pats lifers knew this already. When Brady was in his 2nd (2001) year BB said several times that Brady had a remarkable insight into the offense and would offer constructive opinions that reflected his hours of film study.

The part about Brady that surprised me a bit was his kid caught with his hand in the cookie jar whining excuses for his play coming off his injury, not that I blame him. He's human. But BB just tells him to "Step up in there" again

Welker responded to the show:

Several players said they watched the Bill Belichick film last night on NFL Network. Reviews were positive. Belichick's sense of humor came through in the film when he asked Welker if he knew about Wally Pipp, which came after Julian Edelman returned a punt for a touchdown in a 2009 preseason game in which Welker didn't play. Today, Welker cracked, "Something tells me I'm not falling into the same category."

Things I learned from last night:

1.) Apparently, Brady hit puberty during the preseason of 2009
2.) Lou Gerhig had 23,000 consecutive starts. No wonder he considered himself the luckiest man of the face of the Earth because after 23,000 consecutive starts, he finally got a vacation. Too soon for the Gehrig retirement speech jokes?!?
3.) Wes Welker probably still doesn't know who Wally Pipp is
4.) Bill Belichick is less invested in the weekly teleconference than we actually knew and likes to enjoy a God damn snack during it
5.) For some reason I just don't think Belichick's idea of having fun with football is nearly as fun as Rex Ryan's. Not that I mind.
6.) I love to see that after a decade, Belichick and Kraft have found this comfortable relationship that transcends words... And any lack of awkwardness.
7.) Bob Kraft may be a masterful businessman, but he sucks as an event planner. Way to schedule a team kickoff dinner on the only night that Belichick and the players can't attend.
8.) Even being way overweight and a chain smoker, Parcells could still beat Belichick in racketball at least some of the time.
9.) I am surprised that Josh McDaniels was so successful while here after seeing how he cannot even follow simple directions from Belichick. Many people thought Belichick snubbed McDaniels after the game while McDaniels wandered the field like a lost puppy dog looking for Belichick, but they agreed in advance to just wave.
10.) I think Belichick and Ed Reed have a very lovely bromance.

Overall, I thought it was a good show, but it didn't really live up to the hype. Granted, it was hyped so much, there was no way it could live up to the hype.

Thats only half of it :D

Not sure what else you could have wanted it really did show the man from a lot of different angles. You saw the family man, the funny man, the competitive man, you definitely saw the genius, and so much more.

Non-Patriots fans have really liked it too, from what I've seen on assorted message boards.

I was hoping for the signing and dance number. I guess I will have to wait until the season premeire of Glee for that.

John McDaniels was successful only because he was drawing up gameplans and calling plays for the greatest quarterback who ever played the game who was also given the freedom to call his own plays from the line of scrimmage. McDaniels, after Mangini, was the worst head coach and even worser personnel man in the Parcells - Belichick tree. Mangini occupies the bottom most rung because besides being a major loser as HC, he ia a no-good, rat-snitch, ungrateful, turncoat, lying rat.
