Here's a transcript of a portion of Andre Carter's media interview following New England's win over the Jets Sunday night:
On if they've finally passed the 'being close' part like they've talked about recently as a defense:
"We did, and I think what it boiled down to was the communication as far as the defensive line front, and the communication on the back end. There's just been times where we've been consistent for maybe three quarters of the game, and then that last quarter, for whatever reason, we just don't finish. That was something we constantly harped on, and this was such a great opportunity just to put together a full game."
On where Brady said last week, 'we'll find out what this team is made of' and what he thinks that is:
"I think in general we're just a team that goes out there and just tries to find a way to win. I mean it's been definitely frustrating to lose two close games back-to-back. There wasn't a time where we had questioned ourselves, but there was a time where we had to look at ourselves in the mirror as men and as football players and just say, "O.K., what will be our defining moment? Either we're going to go out there and be unsuccessful, or go out there and just play the game the way we know we're capable of doing and be successful."
On whether he realized his 4.5 sacks were a franchise record:
"Somebody did tell me. I tell everyone, God is great, and this is one of those games that you'll definitely rememeber. I'm still shocked. I'm still soaking it in. But regardless, I'm just happy we just came out there and won. That was the most important thing in general. Just like I said, we came off two tough games back-to-back, and this was a must win."
On his assessment of the performance of the guys opposite him like Mark Anderson, etc.:
"I think not just Mark Anderson in general, but the guys in the middle, we've just, since day one, we've always said, 'O.K. what things do we need to do? How are we going to coordinate our rushes?' and it's just been....we haven't been consistent. Even though we haven't been able to get the sacks or get the pressure, we're like, 'O.K., one more step here or one more step there.' It's just been a grind but we were just very successful this game."
