The return of Gronk, take two.
New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski tore his ACL and MCL in week fourteen, ending his 2013 season. NFL Network's Albert Breer reported Monday afternoon that the 23-year-old's test results showed no dislocation and he was set to have surgery in "about two weeks".
Gronkowski will not need to surgically repair his MCL, as it will naturally heal on it's own, but the procedure will repair his ACL tear after the swelling in his right knee diminishes; standard procedure in most cases. Also, Dr. James Andrews will be performing the operation.
Breer also added, "(Gronkowski)'s been told he should be ready for start of 2014 season." Great news if true.
With Gronkowski's injury history, along with the recent complications of his fractured left forearm to start the season, it's almost an "I'll believe it when I see it" -type reaction. After all, nothing's definite. Still, great news for all parties involved -- player, family, team, fans, etc. -- that his timetable sets up for a return to the gridiron to start next year.
