Hes got a ton of experience. With our offense, players aren't just plug in and play (or replace). Takes a while to learn this offense. Hell, SV wasn't reliable until his 3rd season. James White may take a while until he's perfectly suited for this offense. Bush would probably take a year to be comfortable in our offense, or he may never be comfortable. I rather have Vereen back, he's a perfect fit, has the blitz pickup perfected, and talent wise, he's one of the top 5 receiving backs in football. He's already at Kevin Faulk status as far as I'm concerned. He was great in the SB. I hope we sign him. Let Ridley walk and draft a power back.
He put up legit Faulk Like numbers this year and I want him back but he's no Faulk. Faulk did it that well about 10 years straight and was a superstar ST player, ELITE blocker, and an exceptional leader. Belichick has commented several times on how Faulk was one of the best leaders the Pats ever had and probably the most sure handed. He's already at Kevin Faulk status as far as I'm concerned.
I'm interested to see how Bush would handle the cold weather. Once it turns to ****, is a historically injury prone player going to be able to carry the slack come December/January? There's no denying he's a fit and a talent.I think Bush would pick up the passing game well. Hes got a ton of experience.
My question is his durability and ability to pass block/pick up the blitz. Hes not known to be good in that area at all.
Bush can't hold Vereen's jock strap. He's one of the most overrated backs ever to play in the NFL.

Bush is more talented than Vereen by far, and I don't think he's overrated I just think that the media and everyone hyped him up like crazy coming out of college and portrayed him as a 30+ touch a game back and he's just not built that way.
I think Bush would be able to fill in nicely for 2 years if it came to that, hes a veteran and could get the blocking assignments etc down fairly easily... He's also been on some pretty bad teams throughout his career, so I think coming to a team like NE could really motivate him and push him to that elite level.
I want Vereen over anyone else... but at a reasonable price given his production... but history has shown that teams will try to pouch our guys from us and overpay them... just like what happened with Woodhead.. we all wanted Woodhead to stay here, he was a solid contributor for us, but the Chargers got starry-eyed and overpaid. We have to be ready for that same type of situation to unfold for Vereen and have a backup plan, or 2 or 3..
He's not a work horse back and wouldn't be used like one.. Blount/Bolden/Ridley would be performing that north/south power back role in December & January, Bush would just be a complimentary piece to that.
Everyone is writing off Jonas Gray. Don't I had him written off and expected him to blow up this off-season. He's been doing and saying all the right things. There is talent there. You don't get 200 in one game if you can't find and hit a hole. He was also that Pats' leading rusher last year...how amazing is that?
Seriously, he's taken his beating like a man, and put it all on himself to do better so that he's never on the outside looking in again - and that was HIS FAULT, according to him.
Sleeper. Pats leading rusher, 4.6 ypc...sleeper...
Heck. Forget Reggie Bush. The Pats should bring in Demarco Murray and Ndamukong Suh for a look-see, too. Right?
They did get rid of the salary cap, didn't they?
