A hypothetical question: Suppose Vollmer stays on PUP but is expected back to health by week 6, and the waiver wire doesn't spin OT gold, would BB consider only carrying two tackles?

Our other options appear to be Weems, Kopa and Hix, plus some other flotsam. Of the three, Kopa might have more potential, but he seems to have the most significant injury, which is supposed to keep him out for a few more weeks...(so my cousin's sister-in law's landscaper told me)

So, would BB go with just two OTs ?

Could MacDonald or Thomas be the emergency/swing OT? Not ideal, but I wouldn't put it past BB to try it. There is only one division game in the first six weeks, in Buffalo.

Thought this was going to be about two over times

To answer both of your questions (with my opinion):

--I do not think that Belichick would risk only keeping 2 OT's if Vollmer goes to PUP. It's just too risky for obvious reasons. While you may say that we may not be to find a diamond in the rough, there will certainly be a number of tackles out there. Most of them will not be too good, sure, but the possibility does exist due to the number of players that will be available.

--I do think that the team may be experimenting with different positioning on the offensive line, for example McDonald. I'm sure that he could indeed move over to tackle in a pinch, just the same as we saw Mankins do last year before the 2nd Dolphins game when Light was hurt. How effective a guy like McDonald (or even Mankins again in an emergency situation due to the interior depth being better than the tackle depth) could be is the main question.

    I would doubt it.

Unfortunately Matt Kopa and Kyle Hix are currently sidelined. We don't have an accurate prognosis on their return to the practice field.

I would not bet the farm on Donald Thomas.

No way. I really think Vollmer will be back. If he is placed on PUP, then I think we keep one of the young ones as tackle. Weems excites me, but that is only because of what I have read about him in the press.

No way Mankins with his recovery from ACL slides over to tackle-too risky.

I think you need to re-read the post again. I believe you may have misinterpreted it.

No one is suggesting that Mankins move to tackle.

We were discussing emergency situations to get through a game IF the team decided to only go with 2 tackles (which they won't).

I'm not nearly as excited about Weems as you may be, and I don't recall reading too much about his positives so far in camp--although I'm sure there have been some reps where he looked well, just like any other player will have at times.
