I don't think it makes a lick of difference to this team.

I agree. I was asking more from a fan's perspective, though. Personally, I prefer the years when nobody is talking about the Patriots or giving them a chance to win. I like when they're flying under the radar more than years like this where it seems EVERYONE is picking them to win.

I agree, this kind of banter from the press is just background noise. After Walsh, the current expectatons from the press isn't even a buzz in their ears.

From my perspective as a fan, it's a different story. It drives me nuts, I've been leaning towards the facts, when the speculation starts, I listen for a second to see if there's something of substance, which is rare and I bail.

The reason this always comes up, the question if the press effects the Pats is because it effects many fans, we're annoyed, at least I am.

Fans, pundits, writers and owners won't be on the field on Sundays (well maybe jerry jones will).

We can all say what we want as often as we want too......at the end of the Sundays, it will be the players executing the coaches schemes and outplaying their opponents that will bring the W's. Nothing else matters, BB certainly knows how to manage expectations, so I am not concerned at all.

As a fan and a Patriot fanatic, I can never get enough hype. Hell, I even have old VCR tapes of SB 20 hype kicking around.

Even as a fan it's totally irrelevant to me. Media hype is utterly meaningless. We'll find out on the field soon enough, and that's what counts.

Don't say that too loud... some people seem to think they are severly affected by what the media says...

That was the dumbest article I've ever had the UN-pleasure of reading.

So let me get this straight, if you beat the Patriots up front, you'll beat them? wow genius, I could use that game plan on a game of freaking Madden. Obviously if you bring down the QB all day your going to stop them.

What's funny to me is ever since the Ravens game, the "blue print was out" yet the Patriots lost 1 game in the next 7 or whatever it was.

The point I'm trying to make is there is no real blue print. It's not like teams are now just saying hit Brady. Is that not the point of every NFL defense? was that NOT Carolina's plan against us? Wasn't their DL supposed to stop us? And they didn't.

Look. If we face the Giants again in the super bowl and our OL plays like crap, that's all it is. You can draw up whatever plays you want but if your wall goes down, the offense does down. I will say this confidently. If the Patriots don't block, we'll lose. If we keep Brady up, there isn't a team that can even stay with us.

I guess that's the blue print huh? Get to Brady or you're done. Yeah, I'm sure that sounds so simple and good to every DC who has to face us week in and out. The fact is no team in the NFL can say they have the weapons we have.

With all the attention paid to improving the defense, if this defense is even top 10 in points allowed, I don't see us going any less than an AFC title berth.

What a strange topic to start. The world is fickle. When you are good you get attention.. good or bad.

Why do you think there are flavour of the month celebrities all the time?

This is the problem with teams that are consistently elite and have a lot of stars. Look at teams like USC football, Real Madrid, and the New York Yankees. The pressures of being expected to win, with everything being dissected takes a toll on every team. There is no way around it. The Patriots are now a new team, no longer the underdog with a bunch of scrappy players. There is no going back, as long as this team has Brady, Moss, and Belichick. In my opinion the Patriots have responded incredibly well. They put together one of the greatest seasons in NFL history in 2007, Super Bowl be damned. Last season they were still under the microscope as a study in professional sports (a team losing the best player in the league.) They won 11 games, and that was with a ton of other injuries to boot. Bottom line is there are 31 other teams that would kill to win a title; sometimes a little luck is needed to win it all, and the best you can ask for is the team plays the best it can and capitalizes on opportunities when they come up, especially in the playoffs.

As far as I can see, the only practical impact of "too much attention" on the Pats might be that they have to play too many games that start late in the day or at night. BB has said that he would prefer to start every game at 1:00 on Sunday afternoon.

Otherwise, I think this team is way too seasoned for the media attention to have any impact on them at all. I think that we fans are more obsessed with the good and bad of this attention than are the players or coaches.
