This year's Super Bowl was hard on me. I was secretly hoping and praying for a big lead in the 4th quarter, so I could just sit back and enjoy the game. But the euphoria of the ending was priceless. Anyway, here's my take of the game, in verse.

Super Bowl LI

The Super Bowl, the world doth love,
It comes but once a year,
The 51st has just been played,
Oh my, you didn’t hear?

It happens that I watched it all,
Yes ev’ry single play,
And let me tell you, it was rough,
Did I enjoy it? Nay!

My team, the Pats, I love them so,
I thought that they would win,
The Falcons they believed it not,
The very thought a sin.

Quinn and Shan and Ryan too,
Planned their offense good,
Amongst themselves they swore they’d beat,
The one who wears The Hood.

The whole first half they had their way,
With football’s toughest D,
Intermission they enjoyed,
With confidence and glee.

And I myself, I was depressed,
My team was getting beat,
I paced and cursed, for all the world,
It seemed like sure defeat.

The Falcons they were so enthused,
Their plan was working great,
They had no doubt that they would beat,
The team the whole world hates.

New England on the other hand,
Panic they did not,
They stayed the course and came back out,
But still did not get hot.

The Falcons scored their 4th touchdown,
Oh no, how can this be?
My Pats were down by twenty-five,
Twenty-eight to three.

I contemplated turning off,
My stupid TV set,
This Super Bowl was going bad,
I’d lose my free lunch bet.

And then it came, long overdue,
We sure did need a lift,
We got a break, it turned into,
A big momentum shift.

We scored some points, and broke the drought,
Then made a stop on D,
Then karma came unto us for,
That catch made by Tyree.

And Manningham, oh yes he did,
He tore our hearts out too,
But karma showed up just in time,
And gave us hope anew.

Brady threw to Edelman,
A very risky pass,
It bounced around, and almost fell,
Upon the mid-field grass.

A miracle they say it was,
Made light my heavy load,
Jules indeed did scoop it up,
The replay clearly showed.

And then the points they did pile up,
On our side of the board,
Until two tens plus eight each had,
“Let’s win!” Pats fans implored.

Then time ran out, it did expire,
Overtime’s a lock,
The end of four, they did put more,
Time back up on the clock.

It will not stop, this streak we have,
Things sure are going right,
Let’s win the toss, and score six more,
And celebrate all night.

The Pats called heads, and heads it was,
We chose to get the ball,
We marched the field, down to the goal,
Then Brady made the call.

To run the ball, not throw it in,
To Seahawks fans be kind,
Yes they would ask, why not just run?
You lost your freakin’ mind?

And so we ran, James White did score,
World Champs we are again,
And at that point, I did put down,
My empty fifth of Gin.

No fun it was, that game was hard,
On my fragile mind,
I hope next year, we win again,
If fate would be so kind.
