Fred Smerlas sounded like Ron Borges's defense attorney on WEEI this afternoon on the Big O Show. After Smerlas called (off the air) his friend Borges, Smerlas shamelessly tried to spin the Borges tale of innocence. Fellow panelists Tom Curran, Glenn Ordway and Pete Shepherd had to be shaking their heads listening to Smerlas's nonsense as he praised Borges as a professional journalist. A journalist, I believe, who just so happens to have a vote in the annual Pro Football Hall of Fame balloting.
