Pro Bowl "Appearances" question

Hi,

When rating a player's career as it winds down, sometimes a number that is brought up is Super Bowl appearance/nominations.

For the sake of technicalities, does it count towards a player's Pro Bowl stats is a player plays as a replacement?

If so, do all of those asked to be an injury replacement get a Pro Bowl stat as well, even if they don't play?

I believe one year it got 7 quarterbacks deep before they got 3 players to play.

In that case, did a 16 team conference have 7 QBs that could claim they made the Pro Bowl that year?

The rule has generally been you're consider a Pro Bowler if (A) you are one of the initial invitees—e.g., Brady and McCourty—whether you play or not, or (B) you actually play in the game.

So, for example, Matt Cassel becomes a Pro Bowler if he plays. If he declines, then he isn't.

Good I think he deserved it. He played really well this year and had very little by way of passing weapons until Bowe started to finally show up in the second half of the year.

Good for him.

Well Deserved.

LOL at Cassel being the starting QB at a Pro Bowl. Sorry, he's a decent QB but he doesn't belong starting the Pro Bowl.

He's not starting.

If you look at his stats, he's more than deserving of being there.

He deserves it.

Had to wait for what he got :) Well done to him :)

Patriots staff is supposed to coach that game, so many BB puts Cassel in for three quarters?

Haha
