Punter MacAfee Throws Pagano Further Under the Snapfu Bus

I love how they tried to imitate Bill and to deceive the opposing team, but failed so miserably that they ended up deceiving themselves.

Watch Bill come up with a play on STs that is perfectly executed and easily gets us 6 points the next time we play them.

This on Pagano and his Special Teams coach for not making sure everyone knew exactly what was supposed to happen.. That's the difference between Belichick and everyone else.. He'd never have put a replacement gunner in that position..

That's on the ST coach. He may want to make sure his resume is up to date.

Agreed.

But it is also (most definitely) on Pagano.

Why?

Look closely at the video of the play.

At the bottom of the screen, Pagano's head is visible just to the left of the 4th down sideline marker.

He is standing just 10 feet away from the 9 Colts who are lined up incorrectly 2+ yards behind the LOS. How can he NOT call a TO or at least whisper to one of his players to "move up, son"?

The man was comatose.

That's not on Pagano. He's not expecting the ball to be snapped.

Well...the explanation makes more sense of what happened. I guess Pagano didn't see the Poster otherwise he may have never attempted to fool the master.

It is to the extent that if the play had worked as designed and the ball would have been snapped to catch the Pats with too many defenders on the field, the play would have been nullified due to an illegal formation. How do you practice a play for a year and then line up illegally? Definitely on the coach.

He was looking for a penalty on the Patriots, Deus. It wasn't a beauty pageant.

They first had to be lined up correctly if there was to be a penalty on the Patriots, either through offsides or too many men on the field.

Yes. but if you're going to risk this, at least make sure you sell it with a legal formation.

No....

The play is designed to catch the Patriots early. Once the teams are lined up, and the right numbers are on the field, the play is dead. There's nothing Pagano can do.

You people are trying too hard.

I look forward to y'all railing against BB for every false start, offsides and illegal formation the Patriots get flagged for, from now on, though.

In my opinion it it is on Pagano as he allows guys to take part in plays where they haven't got a clue what is going on...even if the ST guy made the call, he is atop of the Franchise and needs to make sure everything is in working order, throughout the week, and on gameday

I don't disagree with that, but if the Colts had indeed caught the Pats early, the play would have been nullified do to the illegal formation.

That's what happens when you treat Patriots games as the super bowl. When the original guy went down they should have just put away that play for another game. Not try to force it on themself with a player, who plays a crucial part of the play, who haven't even practised it.

If the Pats were flagged for offsides (or even 12 men on the field), that would get canceled out by the illegal formation. Best case scenario is penalties offset, repeat fourth down.

It doesn't matter. Once the Patriots had the right personnel on the field, the play was essentially dead. The ball wasn't supposed to be snapped.

That's a better explanation, but it still doesn't explain why they weren't lined up at the line of scrimmage. It was not a legal play. Idiots. Haha.
Yeah, and why would Colt Anderson be playing quarterback in that situation to begin with? The Colts have a dozen guys on their team are better suited (running and throwing ability) to handle that responsibility than a Safety. Whalen (The Center on that Play) who was an ineligible receiver would have been better at handling the ball as he is a returner. What a debacle!
