ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Defensive tackle John McCargo's out, cornerback Nate Clements is limping, and linebacker Takeo Spikes still isn't sure if he's ready to play.
....
Injuries have been growing out of control for Buffalo (2-3), depleting an already inexperienced unit that has started three rookies in each of its past four games.
First, it was first-round rookie draft pick, Donte Whitner, starting at strong safety in place of Matt Bowen, who is still out after breaking a bone in his lower right leg two months ago.
Then, Spikes and veteran free safety Troy Vincent hurt their hamstrings in Buffalo's regular season-opening loss at New England. Spikes hasn't played since, while Vincent was placed on injured reserve forcing the team to start rookie fourth-round pick Ko Simpson.
Now it's Clements, who's listed as questionable with a sore right quadriceps, and McCargo, the second of Buffalo's two first-round draft picks, who had surgery Monday to repair a broken left foot. Both were hurt in a 40-7 loss at Chicago last weekend.
