I declare Bull**** on the article. They didn't stay on the west coast after the Raiders game (and drive down to San Jose the next day) they flew home.

Belichick was guest host at a gala benefit at a Morton's Steakhouse in Stamford CT in 2005 2 months following his teams 3rd SB victory

Maybe he likes it there?,maybe its his favorite USA restaurant?,Maybe they actually did eat down there? - Who knows?

If the charter plan flew into San Jose from Seattle then it would make sense that they would have to fly out of SJ but yeah, they usually head out right away.

Not proof or anything, but this shank shaughnessy article sure doesn't sound like the team took time out for a pigout in san Jose....

Sorry the following day...meaning MONDAY.....THAT is BS...because they were HOME at 3 AM...according to one Patriot...so????? the next day..they were HERE...apparently the timing was wrong...I would like to challenge that BS article...if it did happen NOT Tuesday...

They may have gotten the timing wrong, but this did happen in 06. Maroney, Jackson and the other rooks had to pick up a $25,000+ tab at a restaurant in the Boston area.

I tried posting comments pointing the whole timing issue out...I doubt they will be posted...sounds like BS to me.

Are you serious? What about this sounds so unbelieveable to you and, moreover, why is this something you think needs to be contested?

It's sorta like arguing whether or not someone on the team got a haircut last week. This sort of hazing stuff happens all the time, there's a history of just this sort of thing, in fact.

The following makes no sense.. unless they did it back in NEW ENgland.. the following day they were back home, not in San Jose..

From what I heard, This happened after the Seattle game, not the Raiders game - The writer has his games backwards.

That makes more sense. Afterall, we're not talking about a major sports writer here. This person probably didnt even care that the info wasnt spot on. Who cares :D

The timing is off...if they had said a week earlier it would have made sense. If they got a date wrong and timing who says the rest of the story is true..It's a matter of facts getting them right. If it did...fine. But at least try to get it right. They didn't even bother.

Won't speculate on how true that is, but since it did happen in '06, that is friggin expensive. Assuming there were about 50 people, that's an avg of about $600 per person. Jesus, $600 for one meal. That's well more than my monthly food budget when I was away for school.

Assuming approx. 50 players plus 30 coaches and staff went to the restaurant, the average tab per player comes out to $375. There's no way team mates are buying $3000 bottles of wine etc. on the rookies tab. If it did happen, I bet the tab was under $10K.

Re: Patriots rookies pay for $30,000 tab at a San Jose Steakhouse following Raiders g

I think that IF it happened, it happened the Monday after the Seattle game. Though, I would find it highly suspicious that the team would be going out to PARTY with Cassel's dad passing away. Unless they were already at the restaurant when Cassel was notified.

As for what the team would buy, Why wouldn't they buy $300 bottles of Cristal and a $3000 bottle of Cognac or two? You seem to not understand that the "Rookies" (Mayo, Wilhite, BGJE, Guyton, Slater, LaVoir, DeVree) have pocketed well over 2 million. Why wouldn't they be able to cover it? Especially if it was divided out over at least 6 players. And that is only if you don't count the practice squadders who are all in their 1st year except for Malone and Connolly. Mike Richardson might also have been included since he was on the IR last year. And its not like they did it after the 1st game. They've done in after game 14. So the rookies have gotten their signing bonuses and gotten a few game checks as well. The only ones who might have been exempted are the current practice squadders because their pay is so little.

P.S.. One other note, the Patriots had all 62 players in Cali.

Re: Patriots rookies pay for $30,000 tab at a San Jose Steakhouse following Raiders g

This almost certainly happened after the Seattle game... they went directly to San Jose after that game because that's where their practice facility was, and it makes zero sense that they would go down to San Jose from Oakland the day after that game, with a Sunday game coming up. They flew out immediately.

All indications point to this happening after the Seattle game. In fact, I'm convinced of it. That said, it's amazing how these guys live.

Uh oh, Steakgate 2008 is gathering steam. Seriously, why would someone make this up?
