I love college wrestling. In my humble opinion it's a more technical, athletic,
and challenging sport than college basketball, football, soccer, baseball,
softball, you name it. College sports suck for the most part except hockey,
and college wrestling is a great spectator sport. In the areas where it is
popular it is a major spectator sport. New England is not a big college sports
area except when some team has a good season then the disinterested
alumni crawl out from their liquor induced coma and buy tickets to be seen.
If you actually go to some of the matches (not many around here unfortunately)
you would probably appreciate it a lot more. JMHO, YMMV.
I actually wrestled in HS and worked out with an AAU Wrestling coach in the summer during college, so I can appreciate the skill, effort and athleticism needed to wrestle at a high level. HOWEVER that PARTICULAR wrestling match was a huge YAWN by any standards.
BTW- I also played lacrosse in college and into my early 50's on the club level. Now THAT is a sport I never understood why it has never caught on as great spectator sport.
