Jack Del Rio to Oakland

As expected. The coaching carousel is settling out:

- Rex Ryan to the Bills, with Greg Roman as OC and Dennis Thurman as DC. Jim Schwartz out.
- Todd Bowles to the Jets. **** LeBeau will probably hook up with Bruce Arians in Arizona to fill the gap left by Bowles' departure.
- Del Rio to Oakland.
- Jim Tomsula apparently about to get hired in SF, after Adam Gase was considered the frontrunner.
- Gase and Teryl Austin the main options discussed so far for Denver, with Gary Kubiak in the background if he decides to consider it.
- Dan Quinn the reported heavy favorite for Atlanta, with Austin as the backup option.
- John Fox, Doug Marrone and Austin as the top 3 options for Chicago.

Not the biggest Del Rio fan, but I gotta admit they look like they might finally have a bright future ahead of them. Franchise QB appears to be in place, young talent at WR, a couple of young budding stars on defense with Moore and Mack, and a really strong draft from last year where they hit on a lot of young talent. Not to mention that they have an abundance of cap space.

Was never a huge fan of the Raiders, but they could finally be on the upswing in a few years.

Well, a little off topic but if Tomsula ends up being the next 49ers coach, it seems like that is the last destination that seemed possible for Adam Gase besides Denver if they decide to promote him. But even if he isn't promoted to HC it seems like he will remain in Denver. Wonder if that increases Manning's odds of returning, because I heard him leaving would've made him retiring very likely.

I think DelRio is highly-overrated, particularly as a head coach.

I'd be surprised if Elway gives Gase the HC position. If he was such a logical, no-questions choice then it would have happened almost immediately after Fox was gone. I think Elway is too chickenshit to give a young guy like Gase the keys to the car.

It is a gigantic transition that the Broncos go through right now (FA class of next two years, coaching) that will most probably determine the course of the next 3-4 years. I dont see Elway letting anyone without experience run the show.

Hasn't that franchise seen enough misery in the last decade?

I think this pretty much dooms them. Kind of sad, it would be nice to see them have a little sucess again, but Del Rio is just a horrible head coach. I don't get it, it's like these teams never learn.

Oakland: Where coaches & players go to end their careers. It's where pro football goes to die.

retread coach for a retread team. maybe nobody else wanted to coach the raiders

Just a reminder: the Rooney rule requires that a minority candidate be interviewed before a hire is made, unless someone has a clause that automatically promotes him to the position.

Didn't Oakland hire a Denver coordinator as head coach a couple of years ago and then run him out of the building earlier this season?
