I certainly never intended to claim that top tier talent isn't important. Indeed, the Pats a ton of guys who can create mismatches:
You have to pick your spots, as you say. The Pats traded up to get Gronk, Jones and Hightower, they went after Revis when he became available. If you're going to pay big money or use high draft capital then you want to be pretty sure that the player you are targeting fits your system, both in terms of skills and temperament.
I agree and my point was lets not get carried away and say having top end talent doesn't matter.
Agreed. Also on Hightower patience pays off. We forget these guys and especially LBs for Bill need a few years. I loved Hightower coming out but saw him as a hybrid DE would could drop on occasions. I know you wanted David instead who Collins shares some similarities with but even we, and I consider us to have more patience than most fans, we starting to question him the end of last year. Glad we're armchair GM's.
