Rodney Harrison made the same point about their not being able to stretch the field. Hopefully, with Branch on the roster for three weeks now they'll be able to do a lot more in that regard.

In the first half they did go deep to Branch for the PI call.

The one thing interesting is how the offense did gets it's act together in the second half of both games. The 17 play TD drive was a monster drive.

However, one thing interesting even in 2007 was how the offense didn't really take advantage of short fields but were very succesful in 90+ yard drives.

Maybe a combination of good defenses and getting to know the new pieces.

The Tate, Gronk, Hernandez combination do seem to hold the key.

The grades seem to be about right, though I'd give the offense only a C.
It would've been a C-/D+ were it not for the opening drive of the 2nd half.
Overall, I'd give it a C+.

I think his grades for the offense were generous considering how much they struggled. Their only good drive was the one to open the 3rd quarter for the TD. Outside of that they were 25% on 3rd down and just couldn't convert many points off those Chargers turnovers. This game is a blowout if the Pats offense plays like it is fully capable of.

Actually, both drives in the second half were good.

Granted the second drive netted only a FG. It was time consuming and put us up by 3 scores.

Games like this screw ball are hard to grade because normal methods of measure are tough. Even if they scored four TD's in the first half, they would have most likely not broke 100 yards of offense.

The offense rated better under "situational football" vs visually pleasing. Obviously "stats" were somewhat ugly.

The defense deserved a better grade, special teams a worse grade.
