Giants signed RB Brandon Jacobs to a four-year, $25 million contract. The deal includes $15 million in the first two years.

While the guarantee ($13 million) is impressive, this isn't a market altering deal. Jacobs could've likely received more had he avoided the franchise tag, but he'll be able to re-enter free agency again at age 30 if he's not released in the meantime. The Giants were likely unwilling to go overboard because of his injury history and the fact he isn't an every-down player. But as a 264-pound bone crushing power back on the upswing of his career, he's indispensable. Assuming Jacobs stays healthy, he should set a personal high for carries in 2009 with Derrick Ward likely gone.

Not really anything related to the Pats just figured I would throw it out there in case anyone else missed it.

I know Jacobs is a beast, but that seems like a lot. His running style and size seems like he's going to get hit and injured - sooner, not later. But hey, good for him; $13 million guaranteed sure is nice.

Seems like alot at first but when guys like AP, Chris Johnson, D'angelo Williams, Matt Forte, Marion Barber, etc get off their rookie contracts in the new market this will look like a bargain IMO.

I disagree, I don't think it's a lot at all. In fact, I think the Giants made out big time here. He's still young, and even if he plays a very physical style, it's a lot less than he could have made in the open market. Plus, if the cap doesn't get renewed, it makes the deal look even better.

Also think if they franchise him every year right now when they did it was for 6.6M? and every year that will increase I think its a pretty fair price for a guy with this talent but I won't be surprised if he gets hurt on one of the last two years of this contract.
