Valuation Breakdown
Sport: Portion of franchise's value attributable to revenue shared among all teams. Market: Portion of franchise's value attributable to its city and market size. Stadium: Portion of franchise's value attributable to its stadium. Brand Management: Portion of franchise's value attributable to the management of its brand.
The skinny
The Patriots have conquered the football field with three Super Bowls in the past five years. On the financial side, things have worked out at Gillette Field as well. The stadium, which opened in 2002, generates $75 million a year in sponsorship and premium seating revenue, making the Pats the NFL's second most valuable franchise. The Patriots next move: a travel company. Huh? The Patriots have been offering discounted private jet travel and luxury vacations to their wealthy premium seat holders in hopes of tapping team and brand loyalty when things aren't going so well on the field. Maybe it's not so crazy an idea.
Major corporate sponsors are Bank of America (nyse: BAC), PepsiCo's Gatorade (nyse: PEP), McDonald's (nyse: MCD), Fidelity Investments, Anheuser-Busch (nyse: BUD). Naming rights sponsor is Procter & Gamble's Gillette (nyse: PG).
