CASSEL CONTRACT SIGNING ( 4 years -29.5 million ). Buc 's official confirms deal is for Buc's 2009 1st round selection and 2010 conditional 2nd rounder.

When I saw this yesterday before it was refuted my first thought was:

Why would Cassel sign this deal?

It's less than half of what he's making for one year if he just sits tight. Honestly he could just sit behind Brady for a year then sign a contact next year for as much or more in an uncapped (potentially) year. I cannot see him taking a deal for less than 10M/year.

The rumour has prompted some logical analysis by Florio (did I just say that)?

So it obviously caused a stir league-wide.

The folks at the Tampa Tribune are choosing solvency (albeit reluctantly), and thus writing about an Internet rumor suggesting that the Patriots might trade quarterback Matt Cassel to the Buccaneers.

It is just a rumor, an old-school Internet rumor with no one reporting that any unnamed league sources are claiming that the trade can happen. But as Bucs fans scour the Internet for any shred of evidence that their favorite team is going to actually spend some of that $60 million-plus in 2009 cap space, a rumor is better than nothing.

Man, that trade would suck, but what rating the UK game would get!!
