From the mid third quarter to the mid fourth quarter, the Patriots outscored the Giants 22-0. Meanwhile Eli Manning threw an Eli Manning interception in crunch time.

The Patriots allowed a garbage TD after falling into a prevent and holding a 38-28 lead.

Even despite the final 68 yards on the Giants last drive, the Patriots outgained them by 74 yards overall.

One TD from the Giants came on a phantom celebration penalty against Moss, which forced the Pats to kickoff 15 yards back, into the cold, and resulted in an extremely rare ST touchdown.

I'm not sure how much you can really take from a 1st matchup.

Green Bay absolutely crushed the Giants in their regular season game.

That game also wasn't three weeks ago, like the first NE-NYG game.

GB played them in week 2 ! We played Giants in wk 17 ! I don't know which math you are using, but wk 17 is more recent than wk 2.

It would certainly seem the that Patriots got an "A+" effort from the Giants in that game. Manning broke out of his funk and played extremely well, the defense was fired up and was getting good pressure on Brady, plus they had the home crowd behind them as well.

As you noted, the Pats adjusted to it, kept their cool and eventually won the game. I don't know what else the Giants will be able to throw at the Patriots that they didn't see that night.

Overall it should be an exciting game and I'm confident that BB will be formulating a gameplan to feature more of those adjustments that started to work for them earlier.

excellent points and i'll use them against my Giant fan friends here in the City. i would, however, suggest that you can't call a TD in a two score game with enough time to kick an onside kick a "garbage TD."

That game wasn't played in the best of conditions. I mention this because NE's offense has been very strong in domes, and their offensive speed could be a killer in that Arizona dome.

They also seem to get a better return average from Hobbs, Welker, and Maroney in domes.

Oh, and Kyle Brady, Neal (very good run blocker), and Kaczur were inactive for that week 17 game. For those keeping count, that's two starting O-linemen, and their best blocking TE (one of the best blocking TE's in the NFL), so the Giants will be getting a different Patriots team this time around.

well you know the Giants are able to make adjustments too. And you can keep making little points about how this wouldnt have happened if this didnt happen but the point is it did happen and it could happen again.

Let the Giants fans have their fun before reality kicks in. That last drive was a joke as our defense didn't blitz at all and just hung back. A 3 point loss made it look like the pats didn't score 22 points straight, and that has been hidden from the people making their predictions. In the Bill Belichick era, if we beat them in the regular season we beat them in the playoffs.

Folks, at first I was leery about this matchup, however, the more I look at it.........this is going to be a trouncing of historic proportions.

    1) Dr. Z crows how in week 17, Maroney rushed only for 46 yards and a 2.4 average. What he fails to mention is the Pats were missing the ENTIRE right side of the OL. Yup, no Neal, Kazcur or the BEST BLOCKING TE in the NFL.

    2) ALL of the pressure in that game was on the Patriots. They know how to handle pressure and they did. The Giants had NOTHING to lose and played like it.

    3) Other than Burress and Strahan, can anyone name one player on the Giants who has ever played in a Super Bowl? Think they might not be so "loosey-goosey" with a 2 hour on-field pre-game show and a 45 minute halftime?

    4) That night in the Meadowlands, the temps were in the 30's and there was a wind. Super Bowl - - Dome, nuf ced.

    5) Patriots are 10-0 since 2003 in games when they have 2 weeks to prepare for a team.

    6) The New York Media - - God Bless 'Em! Have wasted no time in hyperventilating their hate for the Pats. Keep it up suckers - - and please make more of those Bridget masks for the big game!

You're right. The Pats DID win that game. And they will again. Good point.

If that playoff game was played in good conditions I think GB wins.

I agree with your points. I checked the NFL gamebook and it had temp in the 40's, 8 mph wind. Wind chill effect 38 degrees, I dont think the cold or wind was too much of a factor.

I didn't forget about the adjustments. The Patriots played a better second half than the Giants did. The Giants played a better first half than the Patriots did. But the game as a whole, they played about equal.

It was a close game. Since then the Giants have beaten the Cowboys and Greenbay. The Patriots had a hard fought battle against a very injured Bolts and had a hard time stopping Jax.

Also Moss has had two catches since then. Why I don't know why. Maybe he was covered better. Maybe the battery charge has effected him to the point BB trusts him as an effective decoy but not to catch balls. Maybe he has an unreported injury to his hands so he is being used as a decoy.

Tom has been injured. Serious injury it doesn't appear so. But could this slow down his movement in the pocket or be mean he is more prone to be injured with a hit, absolutely.

I am rooting for the Patriots and I am picking them to win. But the Giants are solid football team that is more than capable to winning. We are not playing the Dolphins or Jets in the SB. We are playing the best NFC team at the moment.

Like the last few games the Patriots have played this one will still be up in the air half way thru the 4th quarter.

Amani Toomer, but what does that matter? How many of the 2001 Pats had super bowl experience, and they beat the Rams who had been super bowl champs just 2 years before.

The other thing about the second half of that NE-NYG game is that once NE decided to pressure Manning, the game was pretty much over. The whole first half they didn't bring much heat but once they did he was all over the map.

I see this game one of two ways: very close like the first one; or complete blowout.

A couple of the Giants' touchdown drives were helped by bogus 15 yard penalties that should have been off-setting, specifically that last drive you're talking about.

What exactly did happen? The Pats beat the Giants, on their own field. No ifs about it. Most of the little points seem to be coming from Giants fans. Pats don't need to make little points because they've won every game they've played this year. Period. End of discussion.
