Pats think he is worth $7.8m this year. That is his value right now.
Those players were specialists and not every down guys. That is not the case with Jones.
We have different evaluations and market expectationof Jones. Agree to disagree.
Next year (2016) is his 7.8m dollar year, or 5th year option--although they had to make that decision more than a year early, so that's what you're referring to. We may end up keeping him, and we may not. Only time will tell.
I think it really is a make or break year for him in terms of setting himself apart from the "good" to "very good" category of player. If he does that, you'll be right, and then we'll have the discussion of whether or not the Patriots can afford to keep him beyond 2016.
For the record, I do think he's promising young talent, I just don't think he's quite where you're placing him in terms of commanding first round draft picks or multiple second round draft picks, etc. There aren't many players on any team who can command such compensation.
