Yes. Russ didn't so much block shots as steal them. So many shots made sudden U-turns from basket-bound to Couz, Jones, or Havlicek racing the other way for uncontested layups. Russ's way has double the point value compared to the 'modern' method of just randomly smashing the ball away.

The NBA is giving Mr. Russell the Mr. Jackie Robinson treatment. His number will be permanently retired throughout the NBA. All the players in the league will be wearing a commemorative patch on their uniforms for next season. RIP, Mr. Russell.
