Celtics 2023 - 2024 Discussion

I was at the Pacers game the other night and the score was just ballooning in the blink of an eye. All of a sudden we were up 30 and I barely realized. The Pacers didn’t have Halliburton but even so they aren’t a bad team and they were trying out there.

They are just that good that it looks effortless. Prayer circle that our starters are all healthy for the playoffs because I don’t see any team in the conference who can beat this group in seven games.

I've been following that Wemby kid for a while (speak decent French), and I'm curious to see how KP matches up during the Spurs game. If Wemby says healthy, and that's a big if, he's gonna be a problem for the league for a long time. I do miss Tacko, even though he sucked - too bad he couldn't develop even White Mamba level skills if not he would've been in the league for a long time.

Wemby balled out last night. Love watching him play. Hate that Spurs got him. Another team deserves some of their luck.

As with Jordan, I think it’s the Mavericks who need to figure out how to build a team around a unique player.
It's both. Jordan was frustrated by never winning while putting up 50 a night.
He learned to trust teammates. He knew no matter how great you are, no one player can win by himself.
But as you pointed out with the Mavericks, the Bulls had to get MJ teammates who could actually play.
Same goes for Luka.

Yeah see what you’re saying and agree about MJ but Mavs have tried. Just saying it’s concerning that players like Porzingis, Kyrie, Brunson are doing better in other environments than with Mavs. It can be difficult to figure out the right types of players to put around a guy like Doncic.

Bulls also had to figure it out. At time, teams didn’t really build around guards. It was all about building around a center. The idea that the Bulls could win 6 rings with clown centers was revolutionary.

It really does feel that way. Hopefully they can continue to improve and gel as they have been pretty incredible already, so the potential of this team is definitely exciting

What do you all think of the NBA Cup?

I like the idea but not the implementation. I’m just not interested in the same teams. Would love to see them divide teams by US states/ regions and international continents/ countries. Or make it an open tournament with some international league champions invited.

D-league versus international teams would likely be entertaining.

I agree. What is the point? The same teams playing more games for a made up tournament? OH but wait, we can repaint the floor. Wow!!

Started typing... "What the f..." ... oh someone's already talking about it

Hauser should be starting. He’s a 42% career 3 point shooter. Brown is simply not a fit on the team. All he does is disrupt the flow of the offense. He was so bad tonight it’s almost unfathomable given how favorable his matchups were and open his shots were. Before garbage time he was 5/20 and I didn’t see a single pass that advanced the offensive scheme.

The team would be even more unstoppable with Hauser acting as a 3 pt specialist and starting. Imagine how a shooter like him would do with all those wide open looks. Brown took 11 threes tonight. The team rarely wins games because of him but are often digging out of the holes he puts them in.

I mean JB can't be that bad... he's 6th in the league overall in +/- so far this year. He did have a crazy number of in and out shots tonight. I sortof see what you mean about the flow, though, bro.

Also the lowest +/- of Celtics starters. It’s inflated by teammates.

Brown is not the best but not that bad. Everyone has an off shooting night. His pass to Porzi was great. He is learning. Maybe a bit slow, but he will get there. In New England people always complain even when the Celtics look incredible.

Enjoy the ride, sit back and smile, the Celtics are the only undefeated team in the NBA. It is OK to have fun.

He is bad. There’s a reason the Celtics have won 67% of their games without him and why he’s often rated by advanced stats as an overall negative value player, accounting for everything he does on the court.
Everyone has an off shooting night.
Missing 15 of 20 shots would sink almost any other team. He’s maybe average overall at shooting efficiency. Shooting is the only thing he does.
His pass to Porzi was great.
In garbage time. When the game was over, he finally pulled his head out of his ass and passed up another selfish jacked up shot for an easy alley oop. The rest of the game he put his head down with the single goal of finding his shot, has zero court vision, is extremely selfish and one dimensional. He made sure to pad his stats right after the Porzingis pass though.
He is learning.
He’s an 8 year vet who just signed largest contract in NBA history. He’s a worse player than last year.
Maybe a bit slow, but he will get there.
No he won’t. Low basketball IQ. Just doesn’t get it, doesn’t see what rest of team sees. His whole game is iso.

Normal for any fanbase when your team has made 5 recent ECFs recently and come up just short.

And they’d be a shoo in for a championship if they removed him from the lineup. He is going to **** the team at the worst time if they don’t reign him in. Mark my words: if he misses time he will not be back because the team will realize how much better the chemistry is with him gone.

Brad Stevens has created the best NBA team since the Warriors in the mid 2010s. The only thing holding it back is Jaylen Brown.

Fyi, JB's +/- is 3rd best out of the starters for the season so far. That being said... Worst shooter... oh heck yeah... the FT shooting still hurts me after all these years - 72.2% career is godawful... esp for a SG... you'd think he'd improve by way more by now.

Jayson Tatum put on 12 lbs of muscle this offseason. He might be better than Giannis now. Playing like a god. I love that he knows when to take over and when to distribute. That was the missing part of his development.

If Jaylen Brown is your worst +/- starter then your problems are not large ones. He seems to swap with JT playing with the bench but whatever.

After 5 games his turnovers are down almost a 1/3rd per game. He's playing &shooting a little less but that's not a bad thing as JT has 1/3 more touches per game than JB. Overall JB is ave 18 fewer touches per game than last year. Isn't that what we all want?

He's still not a supermax player but to say he sucks and will derail their title hopes is a bit over the top imo.

For some players, less is more and he might one of those guys.

Now that he has his $ let's hope he's buying into the system and sacrificing a little for the good of the team.

Interesting article. I think it is fun to follow the guys we trades. It looks like Grant is doing well and Doncic likes him.
