The result is that they voluntarily surrendered possession of the ball. The subsequent drive by New Orleans does not absolve a bad probability decision.

Even with the “best case scenario” where they got the ball back, they lost two minutes of clock time and 25 yards of field position. That was among the best “rewards” of this travesty of a call, and it still didn’t justify the decision.
