An Interesting Note on the McCourty Negotiations

I assumed that was the case, difficult to sign a contract when he does not know what #26 or #28 are getting.. I would probably do the same thing if..

I heard there is a disconnect between the Patriots and McCourty.

Once Spikes gets signed, and he's the ONLY rookie still standing around holding his Johnson, he'll sign real quick like. Count on it. They know basically the parameters of the deal. That BS with the players association is just that.

The critical thing is that this is no big deal. Compensation is indeed slotted by draft pick. An agent can choose to do the hard work and be one of those that sets one of the standards or he can wait for the players above and below his client to sign and set the upper and lower limits of compensation.

Exactly ONE sort of crazy first rounder has signed. There is no particular reason to expect McCourty to be #2. The patriots and McCourty have no reason to do this.

Sounds like collusion on the part of the NFLPA!!!

;)

Other than that whole "Rookies really need training camp" thing.....

A thought that seems to have escaped 31 teams in the NFL regarding their 1st rounders. Don't make a mountain out of a molehill.

I don't know of any team that says rookies don't need camp. Some deriative of "They need to be in camp so that they don't fall behind" is one of the standing lines, as I recall. However, I wasn't trying to make a mountain. I was just responding to a poster. Camp hasn't even really started yet.

He'll be signed by the end of the week. Everything about him screamed football first coming out of the combine and ultimately I don't think a couple ten-thousand dollars a year will keep him from getting on the field and earning a spot.

That was my first thought. I would love the irony of the owners suing the NFLPA for "collusion". What a laugh.
