Respectfully disagree. KOR ability has a lot to do with quickness. While Slater has excellent straight line speed, his quickness is not nearly as remarkable. See his pro day numbers: Matt Slater*|*UCLA,*FS*:*2008 NFL Draft Scout Player Profile
4.40 seconds in the 20-yard shuttle, 7.31 in the...
I think the speed and sense of recklessness Slater shows vs. double team blocks works against him on KOR. He seems to lack precision and smoothness in his running (much like his pass routes), which makes it hard for him to change direction.
IIRC, his KORs consisted of him sprinting full speed...
FWIW, Demps listed as 5-foot, 7.6 inches, 191 pounds. Jeff Demps*|*Florida,*RB*:*2012 NFL Draft Scout Player Profile Compare to Woodhead at 5-8 (?), 200.
While I'm more than happy with the Pats' current 4 RBs (pleasantly surprised at Vereen's output last week and Bolden's play in general)...
Went to spring training years ago (early 2000s). During the assigned time, a few people approached Johnny Pesky for autographs, and he said with a chuckle, "Boy, you are scraping the bottom of the barrel."
A funny, humble guy who never saw himself as the Boston sports icon he became. He will...
Jeff Demps? Anyone?
Had time under Charlie Weis as OC at Florida. World-class speed.
As Mike Reiss said in his blog, why not?

A Kato Serwanga reference? YES! :rocker:
But staying on-topic, sooo glad Adam Seward is going to be a Patriot. I figure they're waiting until the fourth preseason game to sign him and intimidate other teams by demonstrating what he can really do on the field.
Interesting aside: if you...
Re: Brandon Bolden RB from Ole' Miss Signed
As someone who has written for Bleacher Report, I can say it's very wiki-sports. Very happy that our Bolden is Brandon: wanted Pats to consider taking him on Day Three, but they didn't have the picks early on. Glad he's headed to Foxboro. :rocker:
Goodell should restate that rule in December when the Luck "competition," as it were, gets heated. Talk about mailing it in.
Yet another reason to avoid an 18-game season.
In the 1980s, the Globe was the best sports section in the country. Ray Fitzgerald, Gammons, Montville, McDonough, with Ryan and Shaughnessy back when they seemed to care. Just sayin'.
Amazing how that's been overlooked: Rex is saying that he would have won Super Bowls with the talent that SD has. Not his fault the NYJ came up short.
This type of talk can't continue to be rewarded. Please, football gods? :help:
Sad. Boston used to be a bastion of sports journalism. Writers have realized that they can go on the radio or TV and insult local teams to get twice the attention with half the effort.
Shame on us for feeding into it. :(
Agreed. I've disagreed with Gasper before, but he usually has some evidence to back up what he says.
I just wish that guys like Felger who consistently trash the team wouldn't be called "brave" for "taking on the team." Agree that Shaughnessy started that years ago. "Brave" would be...
Agreed, the Pats don't need a sixth pass-catching option, but they could use a third receiver beyond Welker and Branch. Someone open for 2 or 3 passes a game, a la Edelman in '09. Why sign Ocho at all? What can we expect from him at this point?
No arguing that BB and the coaches have Ocho's back (or that Felger is a nitwit :) ), but with all that help and *****-busting, shouldn't he be farther along? It has been months; it's not a new offense anymore. What were the rookie TEs doing at this point last year?
Based on history, players either pick up this offense in a short time or never. Jabar Gaffney was picked up in October and was contributing by November. Joey Galloway was picked up in February and was gone by mid-season. No one has gotten more attention from Brady and others than Ochocinco, yet...
True. Potential trumps experience b/c it hasn't disappointed us yet. Chad Out-of-sync-o might contribute, though now that we're in Week 6 we're getting close to Joey Galloway territory.
