Dan Fouts...

Fouts was embarrassing. He got so much wrong, and missed on a lot of opportunities to add something useful. Just really bad.

Yea it was pretty bad, I watched the game at my brother's house with the family, and I had to explain a lot of stuff to them because Fouts was spewing nonsense the entire time and just getting things completely wrong

So many good play by play guys out there, yet so few good color commentators.

While I don't mind Ian Eagle, they should switch Greg Gumbel and Trent Green back to the 2nd CBS crew. I don't mind Trent Green, he's one of the only commentators that I don't mind.

Dan Fouts...

Other than making me yearn for Dan bildorf as an announcer.... I think an unplugged toaster could call a better game than him. All he did the entire game was point out what "should have been penalties" and mostly against the Pats..... Hearing him say, "No flag there, hmmmmmmm" made me sick. Maybe he should go back to acting!!!!

Horrible colorman. No insight. He was brutal.

Jerry Glanville would have been an upgrade.

How do he and Ian Eagle get that gig?

He sucks, but I don't think he was anti-Pats at all. He was basically fellating their offense all game. Then after the stupid Harmon play was overturned, he's like "Even when they lose, they win!"

That is a terrible announcing crew.

Cant believe that who CBS put on for the defending Champs first game in the playoffs.

I was annoyed by that cast the moment they brought up Jones, as a result of reading about Nance and the unwillingness to discuss Manning's situation (my understanding is could be medical, maybe not something non-medical and this is speculation - correct me if I'm wrong).

It may have been me, but it also seemed they repeatedly declared "should have been called for" some penalty when the Pats were the alleged offenders, and "they may have gotten away" with some penalty when KC was the offender.

Is there a preferred radio or audio track when the hacks are on, so I can hear something more pleasing to my ears?

He was HORRIBLE. I forget which announcer specifically said this but at the end of the game, when the Chiefs got a delay of game on the one yard line, one of them said, 'Well, its good because it gives them more room to throw."

Yes, getting a delay of game on the one yard line is awesome. They were pumping the Chiefs and Alex Smith at every opportunity. They were awful.

Fouts has always been a bumbling idiot. But yesterday, for the first time ever, I went from being annoyed at an announcer to feeling sorry for the guy. He was SO obviously wrong on SO many plays, you could hear ian eagle stretching his shirt collar. Early onset dementia or something.

I hope no one thinks I'm making light of the situation. I kept thinking, "Here's an example of the symptoms of CTE... right there for millions of people to see."

I hope I'm wrong, and he's just a bumbling idiot.

Fouts needs to be evaluated for post concussion issues....

Fouts has had too many hits to the head and not enough HGH

Huh? My reaction to a Patriot defender tackling a KC runner before going out of bounds and bringing that player to the ground out of bounds. "Should have been a penalty"..........

Normally I dismiss fan comments about commentator bias because similar to complaints about officiating bias, fans of any team in any sport are going to notice calls or comments that go against the team they root for - and at the same time barely notice calls or comments that go their way.

Yesterday was an exception though, because so many of Fouts' comments were incredibly one-sided. Off the top of my head:

  • Called for a roughing the passer penalty on Ninkovich - and then Eagle said 'Mike Carey disagrees'.
  • Said that Edelman was out of bounds, right when the replay was showing that was clearly not the case.
  • Implying that the Patriots would not win since they could not run the ball, ignoring the fact that the Patriots were choosing to pass rather than run - something he would have known had he done his homework and looked at the week 2 game against Buffalo, or the first game against the Jets.
  • Stating that the Pats could not win if they continued to pass rather than run - and literally seconds later Brady connected with Keshawn Martin for a 40+ yard gain.
  • Lauding the Chiefs for their comparative run-pass balance while ignoring the reality that at that time KC was averaging about 3.6 yards per pass attempt.
  • Saying that Gronk got away with pushing Sean Smith off for offensive pass interference, which would have been an extremely weak penalty had a flag been thrown on that play.
  • As mentioned previously, 'KC needs to do this, KC needs to do that'. It wasn't so much what Fouts said - that part was true; it was the way Fouts said it, as if he was imploring them, and begging them to come through.

I am sure there were other biased comments made by Fouts in the game that I am not recollecting right now, but to me he was all but openly cheering for the Chiefs to win yesterday.

Guess he was just that awful...and he was even worse than having 10 threads on the subject.

/that last remark was not a challenge to my fellow patsfans posters :)
