The end of the first half showed that the team was not taking the Eagles nor the game seriously. They had time to run the two minute drill and put up at least three points, but they didn't try to score. Nor were they effective at successfully running the clock out. Instead they screwed around and ended up having to punt. It bit them in the ass bigtime, providing the margin of defeat for the game. It ws terrible, sloppy and showed no pride in their craft. That series was the game, in a nutshell. Thoughts?

I said exactly that. They had 2 choices at the end of the half. Take a knee. Try to score. Somehow they chose neither and did some sort of half hearted football playing. It was strange and it bit them in the ass.

I hate these microanalysis threads. Had they driven down the field and won the game, none of this stuff is even mentioned. They lost the game because they didn't execute, and they allowed 21 points to special teams and defense.

What exactly did they do wrong before halftime? Put themselves in a punting situation, which they knew would be blocked? And it's because they didn't take the Eagles seriously. What!?

They managed the clock well, actually. They would have given the Eagles the ball back with very little time had the punt fiasco not happened. Had they converted the first down, they would have been more aggressive to get into field goal range.

U can't be on that play only. You can pick alot of them. What about the drop by amendola that could have been a td? What about the god awful throw by brady that was picked off when he went deep. Special teams was a disgrace.

I don't think anything that happened at the end of the 1st half was a bad attitude (lol what?) as much as it was poorly coached.

I think that overall this game was managed and played at a very low level than what we are used to see...

Not sure if it was the game in a "nutshell", however, I agree with the clock management mindset. This is the third time this year I have disagreed with the Patriots approach to specific situation clock management.
In the first half of the season the Patriots could disregard the percentages due to their ability to just steamroll opponents. Right now, IMHO, we should play within the safer percentages until we return to the expected potency that health should provide.

They, including the coaches, thought they had a win before the game started.

Not sure how you define "bad attitude"??.. bad game plan, poor play calling and lack of execution might be more apropriate...

They never should have punted into that guys hand!

And yet when we do that (i.e. running clock out in first half against Denver) many complain that they didnt try to score.

It is so easy to critizise choices after the fact. I agree that given the situation we were in we should have just ran the clock to end the half but similar to the Denver game the real ****up was in ST play. In both cases you can second guess how we got there but reality is that a fair catch there and not blowing protection here would have made all the difference. Do your job well.

Disagree, because the clock management sucked, actually. The blocked punt was attempted with eight seconds left. Eight seconds. The play before was an incomplete pass, with nineteen seconds left. All Brady had to do was to take a knee and the clock would expire with no need to give the Eagles the ball at all. Half would have ended with no chance the Eagles score. Instead...

wait till Bill runs them all to the ground this week. then they will have a bad attitude.....

They'll probably have very light practices this week. They look exhausted. Bye week was very early and they've had a lot of injuries.

Remember, they have to actually play these games, not just watch them.

exactly what I meant by bad attitude, they did not respect the Eagles, nor take tha game seriously. They got off to a slow start, put up two TDs and looked like things were rolling. Then they gave the Eagles a short field with Ebner's drop kick and Philly scored. Pats still thought things were well in hand, non-chalanted the end of the first half and let the Eagles back into it. Momentum gifted, and a couple of other breakdowns, things got out of hand quickly. Theyd ete sloppy all over, but that end of the half sequence showed it most obviously.

You mistakenly presume their goal was to kill the clock all along. They threw a pass because they were roughly 35 yards away from field goal range with around 20 seconds left. The goal was to get into field goal range but to run the clock down in case they failed.

You are saying the clock management sucked when in fact the punt blocking/ execution sucked. That's a big distinction. It's great having hindsight, and we'd all love it if you would be in the sidelines during the game, telling BB the outcome before the play happens, as you seem to have known the pass would be incomplete and more amazingly realized that punting was a high risk move and that clock management should have accounted for a significant risk that seemed astronomically small to the rest of us.

So, they didn't take the game seriously but led 14-0 early in the second quarter, but then took a fairly aggressive risk to put the game away in trying the mini squib kick, even though they didn't take the Eagles seriously? And then, when they didn't execute, it was all because of their nonchalant attitude? Wow - I can't believe 45 players all agreed in unison to play that poorly for no reason, after playing very well at the beginning of the game.

Were you there? It must be awesome to not only have a seat on the bench but to also listen to the players talk about how they aren't taking the game seriously, in comparison to all the other games you attend on their bench when they do take the game seriously, often times against weaker teams than the Eagles.

Please, share more insight with us. This stuff is gold.
