OT: TJ Ward injury

What a shame.

You all saw how this was Denver's SB. They're elated right now. Look, it was a big win that could have seeding implications. What was almost a guarantee at one point as a lock for the #1 seed is not so guaranteed now, especially if Gronk has to sit games. They should be happy they won. This could shake out to be a significant loss if the Pats drop a few more. This is a mentally tough team that knows how to play through adversity. It took the zebras to push Denver over the top at home and with key injuries to Pats players to win. It was a perfect storm of a lot of issues for the Pats.

The news, or extreme lack therof, of High is really concerning. I could make a strong case that missing him is more detrimental to the D than it has been to be without Collins. Collins is the freak, no doubt, but High does EVERYTHING! He's so smart and sooo physical. If he goes down for significant time or worse, then I really think that could finally be the thing that makes it just slightly not enough to win the whole thing. I don't know if that statement is true or false. Only time will tell. But I do view High as being THAT important. Think about plays like the Lynch tackle inside the 5 in the SB on a busted shoulder all by himself right on said busted shoulder. Yeah, he's that kind of tough, physical and smart.

Karma is a bytch.. what goes around, comes around.

He was seen wearing a walkng boot after the game. It looks like a high ankle sprain.

As much as the guy is a turd, I'm not sure how a guy like TJ Ward is suppose to tackle Gronk without going low.

I've said the same thing about other players. Ward is a different case to me. He does it to everyone, not just players with Gronk's size. It's simply the only way dude seems to know how to tackle. But yeah and also, the rule changes and players being fined/suspended for head to head stuff is definitely having a huge side effect on another aspect of player safety.

EDIT: What in this statement could possibly be a 'disagree' click? Cool though

True, and Brady seems to agree with me. You can't go high and good luck trying to hit Gronk at the mid section. It's the nature of the game now, to take down a guy like Gronk your best bet is at the knees.

There is a big area of the body between the head and the knee, and you can hit all of it. The Seattle defenders have done a good job of showing that you can hit really hard, and bring down big guys, without trying to wreck their knees or their heads

If your intent is to injur, yes, the knees are your best bet. There are plenty of players that tackle Gronk without trying to take out his knees. Chopping a wrapped up runner in the throat would be one of the most effective ways to cause a fumble, but that doesn't mean you should do it...

Oh, I agree. I wasn't disagreeing with you. I was just pointing out that this is not the only reason that a player like Ward goes low. He does it because that's just the way he plays the game. Other guys do it precisely because of what you've stated.

To me, there was nothing dirty or illegal about the hit yesterday. It was just an unfortunate thing that Gronk's knee met with the DEN linebacker. Chung also kind of fell into it too at the end of the play. The awesome thing, and what might end up saving Gronk's knee and, thus, the season for NE is the fact that the impact happened when the leg was up in the air and NOT planted in the ground. His leg could somewhat sustain the rapid change in momentum, thus potentially saving the ligaments from being torn. If we're talking just a hyper-extension, then Gronk sits for a few weeks, as opposed to the remainder of the season.

Lol. "You mad bro?"

Reminds me of the kids I play against on Madden after they go up 7-0 in the first two minutes of the game. Our season isn't over. We'll meet again if Denver can get past the divisional round this time

Okay, let's breathe. If you read the post again more closely AND read some of the other posts in this very thread in response to the very same poster, I'm not disagreeing with his point, or yours in this case (at least not entirely anyway). I was simply pointing out that Ward is just a dirty player to me and he goes low on EVERYONE, not just Gronk or people Gronk's size. I guess people are still a bit raw about yesterday. It's one game. Let's not act like the season is all gone now and let's not turn on each other. The team wouldn't.

All I'm saying is that I think the whole "Players go low because they can't go high" argument is crap. Players that say that they have to go low now because they get fined otherwise, and quite a few of them have said that, are generally pretty lousy tacklers. Because you can bring down big guys without giving them a concussion, or a crushed knee.

If you read any of my posts about this subject, and I've made quite a number of them at different times, you will see that I say the same thing. Regardless of things like us loosing the game, or Gronk. I'd say the same thing if any of our players went with that argument and tried the knee wrecker tackles.

I agree in that I think Ward is dirty because he does it to everyone. All I'm saying is that the argument for any player of "how else is he going to tackle him" is crap.

Fair enough. Be easy. I come in peace.

Earlier in the game gronk caught a pass and the defender dives straight at the knees. It was scary play. Gronk didn't even turn upfield and the guy just went low. It wasn't gronk size specific because at the height he dove he would have shredded anyone's knees if the foot were planted. It's just a dirty play. Do you see us, we tackle true to form, right in the midsection at their qb. He 6'8" and we have no problem tackling properly. I understand going low to take someone down, but let the man have the chance to see them coming, when you blindside their knees it's dirty play and it's quite simple to see.
