Simmons does not come out of the podcast much better, and Klosterman trapped him neatly by getting him to agree (tacitly) that you shouldn't have to have proof before calling someone a liar, Mehercule!!! Bill made a feeble attempt to assert that IDG was the agent of deflation, and poor procedural actions obfuscated any real information, but it was a by-product and instantly forgotten in the pursuit of the more sensational.
The discussion peetered out before half way through, since Bill wanted to discuss his Obama interviews with his buddy.

Patfanken has pointed this out frequently, but Simmons has the same problem as a lot of people in the media: He just can't take the necessary step, based on the evidence (or lack thereof), and say that the Patriots did nothing wrong.
It doesn't help that he's viewed as the #1 Patriots homer in the media and he's terrible at defending his favorite football team. The arguments he can use are pretty straightforward and readily available, but, from everything I've read, Simmons won't or can't figure out how to use them. Instead, he lets Klosterman and Cousin Sal get the better of him.
