IND's extra rest and why I wouldn't bet blowout

In case you missed it, Pats failed to cover btw all you 'disagree'-able folks. Crow eatin' time. Hope you come back and let us all know what you think now. Maybe change some of those X's to thumbs up even? :)

Back to the game... played out about as I expected. IND had a bit more jump early, but superior NE team still came through after fighting through the initial IND burst and both teams emotions wore down a bit and played back to expected performance levels. Injuries factored as well, with an already thin NE OL. -Again- as discussed might become another issue for the local boys to deal with. NE get's the W, just not in blowout fashion, nor covering ATS. But good win none-the-less , not complaining.

Surprised scoring was as high initially, I thought D's would have the edge early. But OU's are pretty much game flow and game plan related, IMO.

I was rolling my eyes so hard at this thread originally. But you called it. Kind of a gut check tbh.

I thought we would definitely win...probably by 14-21 points but I didn't see it playing out this way. I knew that the massive blow out predictions were stupid though.

For me it was just that games at Lucas Oil Stadium always give me an uneasy feeling..

Gotta save the blowout for the playoffs (if the colts make it)

Hopefully we're saving the "blowout" for the c*cksucking, motherf*cking sh*tstain of a team we're playing next week.

Not very far from a blowout. Without garbage time td it's a 13 point game and a cover. Without patriots taking foot off the gas or failing on about 9 possible ints it could have been much worse.
By the end of the 3rd quarter the game was never in question who is more consistent with covering 10 than not. Garbage time points have a huge impact on covering the spread but aren't a good source of I told you so.

Except the probability of all that - garbage time points, foot off the gas, etc - is figured into the spread.

Good call, pdangle.

I wouldn't call that a garbage TD. They still had a chance to win the game even tho it was slim. If they recover the onside kick all of a sudden that garbage TD isn't so garbage. Either way, not the blowout many predicted. I thought we'd win about the way we did. Much closer game but still a nice victory.

Eh, the defense looked like **** early on but this game was not as close as the score indicated. Give the Pats back some key pieces in the playoffs and get Brady hitting a lot of those throws that he simply missed on and it will get ugly again. Just like the last four contests before this one.

Well done, pdangle. And glad to see that your good cheer weathered the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune. (nothing like quoting a little Shakespeare on a Patriots Monday... after a win, of course) ;)

I wouldn't call that a garbage TD.

I wouldn't either, but the Patriots clearly thought little of Indy's chances of coming back considering that they not only took their foot off the gas, they had their legs dangling out of the open driver's side door. :)

Good call from the OP I was one of those lusting after a total bloodbath and I am here to admit I was wrong. My score this week on the predict the score thread is about 100. The biggest take away from the game for me, and I was screaming it all game long, is why did they not pound Blount more? When they did he got yards and big plays just like he always does. Your o-line is injured and shuffled around? Fine simplfy it and let them road grade and get physical. I really thought with a beefed up interior there would be closer to 40 rushing attempts. I am hoping that this is just a case of outsmarting themselves and if there is a rematch in the playoffs they look at this game and say ok let's get back to what works. You don't draft two monster road graders at guard to throw 50 times a game especially when past history shows you can run at will on a team. Gronk also needed to be involved more. The one drive they did he busted open and ran over people. Either way I will take the win and hope it is a learning experience. Once again, good call OP

Lots of valid reasons that point to a double digit victory (line is up to -10 in many books, and may go up another .5 or whole point by kickoff).

My main concerns would be the recent negative trends regarding our record in: 1) back to back road games, where we've only won both twice in the past nine attempts, and 2) the poor record vs. the spread when giving -10 plus points, which I believe is now up to 3-9 in the past 12 situations, after the JAX game at home in week #3.

Overall, I don't dispute what you're saying in the least. I will simply try and find another game or two where there may be better value--or so I like to think ;)

Sup, the next time I tell you "I don't normally bet teams I am emotionally attached to...but this one is just about a can't lose" you would be doing me a great favor by replaying to me "where I have heard that before" then post a link to this thread. You will probably save me some money :)

And you can return the favor by directing me to a thread where I felt that guys like Dan Connelly and Stevan Ridley were decent candidates to return on the cheap ;)
