This is why I keep thinking the NFL is headed for a cliff, and they've been riding a high that Goodell had Jack to do with.
Who is excited about watching Rivers? Who is excited about seeing what Eli will do this year? Ben? Anybody.
Brady and Manning is the greatest NFL rivalry of all time. As one sided as it's been it's the biggest game every year. When the Patriots aren't playing I'm watching Manning's team. These guys owned the NFL for the last 15 years.
When they're gone, Goodell and his "integrity of the game" BS won't matter.
The NFL is big because of great players, not because of great management. And it appears the greatest will be gone soon. And we'll be left with mediocre QBs and corrupt management. Not nearly as satisfying.
First, congrats to Rivers.
I agree the NYJFL is heading off a cliff. The epic Brady/Manning prime time battles have nothing on the horizon that has the same cache. Yeah, the captive sports media keeps hyping Luck but that fizzles every time he gets humiliated by the Patriots. And this year Houston may eat his lunch as well.
Couple years ago it appeared that Kaepernick, RGIII and maybe Wilson would be the new superstars. Only my man Wilson has survived and we now see him as limited, a mobile able game manager but requiring a top shelf defense to keep the score within reach.
With Brady/Manning gone we'll get lots of hype from the chattering class but the beef will not be there.
