Ben "Trollin'" Volin found an owner at the Owner's Meeting last week to say off the record that there is more evidence of cheating by the Patriots that Wells and Goodell held back.

I think Steph Stradley sums up my opinion of this "revelation" in a Tweet:

Owner claim of *secret* unrevealed evidence = no actual evidence. So cowardly MT @BostonGlobe: http://bos.gl/kjO0lV3

Seriously, with the flimsy evidence they actually had in the Wells Report, why would they hold back any other evidence? All they had in the Wells Report was junk science, some out of context text messages, and Brady refusing to turn over his phone. If they had something better, why hold it back especially after everyone in the world started to poke holes in the sham document that is the Wells Report.

This seems to be another attempt to leak damaging info on the Patriots and Brady when thing are going poorly like the one where Judy Batista reported that Brady required in any deal that the records be sealed (when it turned out that it was actually the opposite and Brady wanted everything on the record and the NFL wanted it sealed).

Of course, Volin will take any owner on their word as long as it smears the Patriots and provides fuel to his crusade to show that this is only the tip of the iceberg. My guess is the unnamed owner is either Stephen Ross (since Volin did a stint in Miami) or Woody Johnson. I am guessing if it was Johnson, Volin had to promise to take him for ice cream after he made his quote.

More intentional damage to their #1 player and team. What is wrong with these people?

The comparison to the NBA doing something like this to Magic and the Lakers, or Bird and the Celtics, or one of the current superstars helps remind us of how insane this is.

Some really great investigative reporting there. How about probing the "owner" about how this is more than a mere thought? Because it gets picked up by one person and repeated? Sadly, even with the dawning, in the public sense, perception that the NFL offices/owners aren't being honest, the fans of 31 teams will nod their head and head to the barn to get their pitchforks.

That's a remarkably stupid passage.

It's wholly illogical for the NFL to both:
  • Punish Brady with appallingly little evidence to prove wrongdoing.
  • Hold back evidence of wrongdoing.
There's no way Volin should have repeated the claim without in some way addressing its great illogic.

Volin sat on this damning information for a week and the league's been hiding this actual proof for 8 months. Yeah, that's totally believable.

In a way, Volin is right about one thing, Wells didn't include everything in the report. For example, we haven't seen the interview transcripts, just the slanted conclusions he derived from them.

If the Patriots have more information that makes the league look bad, I say it's time to let some of it out. If they have a communication from Troy Vincent telling them to suspend McNally and Jastremski (something that Goodell publicly denied happening), put that out for people to see.

If there was more information they'd release it instead of going through with a federal case, period. This is either Woody Johnson making crap up or it's another owner who the league told "trust us, there's more we aren't releasing" when they asked Goodell wtf he is doing.

Ah yes, when the evidence fails to support one's beliefs, what else is left but the double-secret invisible evidence? This statement does confirm my views that many of the owners have their heads so far up their behinds that they cannot spot corruption standing right front of them. As for Volin, why is anyone reading him????

It's sh!t like this that that might put a hair up the azz of any news junkie judge.

The NFL is truly stoopid. They are behaving like teenagers who just keep digging their hole deeper when you try to dish out some discipline to them. Can't wait for Roger to scream, "you're not the boss of me!"

Fine impression of Chris Mortenson by Ben Violin. I'm sure he will recant it when it turns out to be more bullish.t by the league office. In the meantime however it gives Berman all the reason in the world to demand all the notes and materials from the INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATION OF TED WELLS, as they would not just be holding back information from the Patriots and Brady but also from Berman.

Violin's report also makes no sense in that the NFL just gave Berman their last filing on this matter and anything not provided in it will never be part of any finding, be it by Berman or the court of appeals. So this is really just more crappy reporting by a lousy journalist who doesn't apply logic or get supporting information to back his claim.

So maybe Kessler had this planted? :)

This is eerily similar to the "Goodell destroyed the tapes" that was leaked by the NFL in the aftermath of Spygate thus leading to speculation of a much greater "scheme." The intent was to discredit the Patriots in the court of public opinion.

Volin is right, what about the measurements of the other 8 Colts balls, and how many of them were under inflated? This could have been going on for years.

I am sure there are plenty of things the Wells Report hides. He are some examples:

  • Wells badgering Walt Anderson who claims that he is sure he used the logoed gauge that he was wrong and he could have used the unlogoed one.
  • The true facts of the set up by the League
  • Any investigation of the leaks by the League
  • The full text threads of the incriminating texts so we can see the two or three texts he pulled out in context
  • Any interview transcript.
  • Any single quote from interviews from Brady, McNally, or Jastremski
  • What Jeffrey Pash edited out when he was "wordsmithing" the Wells Report
  • The different revisions of the Exponent report since the one included in the Wells Report was dated the day the report was released to the public

Ha ha....hilarious...so desperate....I for one hope that owner gets exposed...

And further, I think the majority of owners are cowards, hiding behind what has now become a punching bag for this fiasco....Goodell. To his credit, he got paid well to have his legacy washed down the gutter...

Would the next logical step be to edit the Wells report and resubmit to the judge? Perhaps they can stop moving the goalposts and start moving the field :D (taking the goalposts along for the ride).

I blame the education system and parents who don't teach their children critical thinking (and yes, that's said with tongue-in-cheek sarcasm).
