OPINION: Brady vs Rodgers - Brady Should Have Had the Edge in the Rankings

Ian Logue

When it comes to Rodgers, we could sit here and go back and forth looking at career milestones and accomplishments, but since we're talking about who is the better player right now, Rodgers is simply edged out - for this year .

rodgers had one playoff run in his entire career.
since that run, he has two playoff wins. one of those " wins " was against the joe webb led vikings lol

Yeah that Vikings game was a disgrace. They pretty much had a wide out at qb lol.

It depends. Are you judging whole careers? Last years regular season? Last years regular season + playoffs?

Careers - Brady no question
Regular season 2014 - Rodgers was better
Regular season + playoffs 2014 - Slight edge to Brady
Playoffs 2014 - Brady and not close.

That is how I see it.

Rodgers to me more than not is the QB you want. The fact is he is in his Prime and Brady is not. He will make the HOF and go down top as 10 easily if he does what I think he will do for the rest of his career.

However there are certain match ups I think Brady is better for. Particularly against Seattle.

Rodgers is smart but more often than not his way of winning involves "out talenting" his opponents while also being smart with the ball. This works for a lot of teams but against a team he can't out talent he sometimes hits snags (for instance he is not great against Seattle).

Brady wins by picking his matchups and reads. This allows him to beat a more talented opposition provided he has the time to complete his short passes. It is less flashy but is the more effective style against a superior opponent.

So there are some teams even now you would pick Brady to be your QB over Rodgers even though I think Rodgers is the guy you would mostly want to pick. The key here is the teams you take Brady over Rodgers for some of the favorites to win SBs which is the reason one could argue to pick Brady over Rodgers in general.

Look it's simple to me.

Throughout his whole career he has proven to either be the best or one of the 2 all time best.

Last year he proved he still very much as good as he has ever been. Largest piece of evidence being the 4th Quarter of SB49.

If you over the course of 14 years you show your the best ever and in the 14th year you show you haven't lost any skill then there is no debate.

Too bad we don't play GB more often....Rogers-Brady would be the kind of marquee match-up that Brady-Manning was for so long. Possibly even better because the Brady-Manning rivalry was pretty one sided ;)

It would certainly be accompanied by a much better coaching matchup. I realize that there are a many who disagree with many of McCarthy's calls, and they often have valid points. That said, his understanding and feel of the flow of the game and ability to make game day adjustments is something that neither Pagano or Dungy ever had. I think that if the Pats faced the Packers that often, it would be a much more interesting, and less lopsided, rivalry .

Rodgers is a playoff choke artist.

Brady needs a crack at this guy in the SB to shut everyone up for good.

I wrote this based on who I thought was the best player for one year, which is what those ridiculous rankings were essentially based on. I didn't want to get into career numbers or percentages, because, again, this was only about one year.

But as I wrote, Rodgers is too good a player to judge overall considering he's still got close to a decade of football left and as I said, next year might be a completely different story.

Never understood this comparison, particularly after the last Superbowl... the Pats down by 10 in the 4th quarter, Brady goes 13/15..125 yards and 2 TD's... case closed no one can come close to that accomplishment... on the biggest stage when it counts the most.

BTW did I mention it was against the greatest defense ever?????

And 8-of-8 I believe on that final scoring drive to Edelman

Roger is the MVP, which is a regular season award, so yes he had a better regular season than Brady.Come playoffs time however he falls flat, to me he's closer to choker Manning than he is to Brady. It should be Manning vs Rodgers as they have playoff things in common.

Rodgers is the second best quarterback in the NFL. In an argument for first, Brady crushes him. Rodgers may finish with the better career stats, but it's doubtful he'll see four rings. Forget the rings, the 4th quarter Brady just enjoyed in the Super Bowl should win it alone.

On these things I root for the non-Patriot player.
Any disrespect, real or perceived, is good disrespect. :)

Nice piece Ian. When I first saw the outcome I was a little tiffed at the audacity of Luck ahead of Brady. I was not surprised that Rodgers was number 1 and was like whatever. But after reading the comments and the opinion piece I am now like, yeah, Brady should be number 1.

Just because a QB puts up a lot of points in fantasy doesn't make him the best. The Seattle comparison is absolutely the deal breaker for me. Brady was the best last year despite getting off to a slow start.

Normally I wouldn't have any problem with him being ranked 3. I don't agree with it but it's really not exactly an insult considering JJ Watt was probably only voted 1 because players were sick of QBs getting number 1 every single year. If it was Rodgers 1 Brady 2 I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Its a subjective list based on tons of anonymous voting, who really cares.

But considering the circumstances I do have a problem wit hit because now all the haters are coming out in youtube comments and everywhere like "hahah the cheater didn't get number 1" and sh.it like that. It's absolutely inescapable.

There are actually idiots saying that? Being #3 is a clear indication that the players in the league do not view him as a cheater and that they don't think his legacy is tarnished. If they did, he wouldn't even be in the top 100.

Brady over Rodgers is an easy call. It's basically Brady over Manning, all over again.

The voting was all done prior to the Wells Report coming out so we can't know for sure.

Any and all disrespect, real or imagined, is good. I want to see more lists ranking Brady 202 in the league.*

*Doesn't mean I agree with, say PFF, but like the added motivation.
