Deflating deflategate --[Mod Edit] AEI Opinion Piece in NY Times

Big tough guy Greg back at it again, nothing to see here folks, another media type to realize being an ass translates into more $$ than being objective. Hypocrisy runs high while he cries about AEIs financial stake in this despite his whole "hot take" being motivated by $$.

He's really come into his own as a snarky arse in recent months. Felger must be proud.

Man you just know Felger had the "trolls get ahead in this field, nice guys finish last" talk with Bedard... and Greg bought it hook line and sinker.

Greg hates goodell too and has criticizing articles about him but again from a personal vendetta because Goodell didnt give him an interview or avoided some question he tried to ask in the combine and treated like s**t. He is to goodell like what borges to pats except that he is right about goodell.

another guy who starts to criticize the messenger instead of reading the message

AEI sure liked slapping own backs about bounty scandal. Unless I missed it, Tagliabue never mentioned it or used "injury data" in decision

A shame Sir, that you have turned into another BenVolin and not another @sallyjenx You used to be better than this.

It's sad , at least with Volin I'm pretty sure it's just pure idiocy, Bedard knows better.

and again he chooses to ignore the facts .Its hard arguing when they dont want to make an objective point...frustrating.

@GregABedard kinda like @BenVolin line of thinking...find holes at the messenger but lets not talk about the message.Greg A. Bedard ‏@GregABedard 25s26 seconds ago
@SVN2010 @BenVolin Ted Wells, his lab and a renowned scientist say math is good. These guys say no. Who am I supposed to believe?
Who is the renowned scientist that Bedard is referring to?

to be honest even i dont understand all the scientific terms being thrown out there but how can anyone asssume that wells being honest when he claims anderson misremembered or the nfl office totally ignored the colts emails the day before because they get such emails all the time. I thought a smart guy like bedard would ask those questions along with the 16PSI issue during the jets game. Two topics enough to question the credibility of the report. Unfortunately I was wrong.

Princeton professor , located in the NJ swamp. Funny how all authorities on this matter have ties to the Jets or are more probable than not Jets fans. Gag.

From my understanding, the math in the Wells Report is good.. it's just how it's applied that's the problem (though it does sound like the AEI guys take issue with how the Wells Report arrived at its statistical relevance/comparison of the psi loss between the two sets of footballs).

If only 4 Colt footballs were measured because the officials "ran out of time" to finish them (with one reading "thrown out" because it was deemed an "anomaly") then obviously, obviously, obviously the Colt footballs were left to warm up until the very end of halftime before being measured.

If you take Exponents own chart depicting how fast footballs regain lost PSI as they warm up/acclimate during that 7-13 minutes and you have just accounted for every single .1 of psi lost. Every single one.

The truth is there to be seen in the Wells Report.. as is the attempted frame up.

Since we're looking at Bedard tweets from today, I don't know what to make of this one ("They" in the tweet below is AEI):

@bruin_9 yeah right. They're totally above board with press leaks and releases. Would have more weight if they shut up and gave it to NFLPA

Did he recently suffer a blow to the head that affected his memory? He has a problem with AEI "leaking" information to the press? I don't know how he can get snippy about that topic with this particular story when the NFL was running to the media right after the AFCCG and then leaking false information 2 days later. But, yeah, those AEI guys, how dare they...

Anyone notice the banner ads for the report appearing? The study itself has been shown to be independent but who is running th ad campaign? Would be interesting to know.

My guess is the Brady Camp is running the ads. It would make a lot of sense.

who paid for the AEI report?
My understanding is that the two scientist who did the report were not paid but treated it like a hobby and did it on their own time because they enjoy solving math jigsaw puzzles in their spar time.

I'm seeing a lot more ads for Kraft macaroni and cheese lately.

Coincidence?

I think not.

It is my understanding that Kraft, of the Pats, has nothing to do with Kraft Macaroni, rather he is involved with Kraft Group paper products, i think cardboard box paper.

I think all this political talk is silly. I do not believe at all that this report was influenced by the political leanings of the writers, by the political leanings of the Krafts, or by the political leanings of anyone else.

I like this report because it got attention in a major newspaper and did a great job of explaining things in a formal manner. However, there is nothing in this report that the people in this forum did not already know, so I do not consider it politically biased at all. We all knew the Patriots' balls fell within the range of where they were predicted to be, and that's a fact no matter whom you vote for.

This reports value is not that it confirms that which we on this board knew already but rather the credibility of the authors, the Credibility of the New York Times, Sunday edition and the Non local markets that now have a chance to feel the effects of Truths counterweight in this on going discussion. The timing is providential as well being so close to Brady's appeal hearing everyone is looking for news about the case. Which causes different markets to run it because it has bearing on the Brady appeal.

AEI doesn't do these types of studies without someone/something issuing a grant to fund them.

We can speculate for days who might be picking up the tab for this.

I'll start with the NFLPA.

Well the report i heard was from a radio interview with one of the principle authors and he said he and his partner on this report treated it like a hobby and thus no one funded it. My vote is that they saw the errors and thought lets take a short at getting the firm free pub which has already exceeded anything they could have purchased without spending 7 figures. A full page in the New York Times Sunday Edition is over the top. Plus for a political stat tank to get this kind of good notoriety is unheard of.

Exponent, the hired guns firm, who once did a study that showed that second hand smoke has no adverse affects?!? He can't choose between them and a think tank with no dogs in the fight?

How about the Nobel Laureate from the Wells Report in Context who said the science is hogwash. Sure he had business ties to Kraft, but Exponent and the Columbia professor in the Wells Report were paid by the NFL.

Or many other scientists who did studies independently who found that the Pats balls would have deflated due to weather.
