Patriots Legal Counsel Rebuttal of Wells Report

They've actually updated that and said the Kraft Group made a passive investment into the company.

Meaning this is a red herring, a non-issue, an attempt to discredit. Any company as large as Kraft, and further involved in a cooperative/syndicated investment group, could be passively investing in almost every new business venture out there! It might not even show up as "Flex Pharma" on any of their financial documents...if they were to have conducted a search.

D.I. note - This guy is really bitter.

The Patriots have now edited their page to reflect Kraft investment: http://wellsreportcontext.com/mackinnons-scientific-conclusion/

I hate to say it, but this another misstep by the Pats. This is going to get them creamed in the court of public opinion.

They should have disclosed the relationship right away. Now people are going to say the Pats tried to pass off a paid expert as an independent expert. Just look at the comments on the PFT article on it.

And Brady has officially filed his appeal. So......

Pats response tells us that the team is not going to pursue legal action. If they were they would not have wanted to lay out their arguemant

What do you guys think about this statement?

At the beginning I thought this Pats report was something they released to create some shock waves and get public support but I'm afraid of something like that, they only wanting to clear the Pats name and this is it.

Actually....... I don't read that into it at all.

When there is a pile of money already on the table....... There is no harm in letting the other side know that you are holding a hand full of aces when you know exactly wht they are holding. They will either fold (you get the $$), try to bluff and throw more money down on the table (where they will eventally lose even more $$). Either way........ the NFL is playoing with an open hand (the wells report) and the Patriots clearly think they have a better hand. Why not call them out.

If the NFL chooses to keep playing with their shytty "open" hand, they will still lose in the end. The only question is "at what price". A high stakes game of chicken if you will.

Patriots will be exhonerated in the end. Sure, haters will always be haters, but at least they will not have this sitting as a "official" stain on their legacy.

Interview is over.

BTW, Turner is an excellent example of why you don't talk to the police (investigator in this case) and don't offer up anything until it's absolutely required.

OK - I've read the whole thing, and it couldn't be clearer that this has been a witch hunt from the beginning:

- the Colts alert the league prior to the game. Based on what exactly? How is this not suspicious to begin with?
- league officials, refs etc. all discuss it beforehand, but never alert the Patriots. Sting operation in all but name;
- Colts ball boy tests the pressure of the intercepted ball??? A direct violation of Rule 2 - but nothing is done about this? Where's the league's precious integrity?
- league officials test the balls at half time with other (non match) referees. This is also a direct violation of the rules. Where's the outrage?
- the NFL leaks bogus information (which they know is bogus) and keep the real information secret until the report is issued. A cover up? Yes. Integrity??? Do me a favour...
- worst of all...all the undeniable proof provided in this rebuttal was known by Wells and the NFL, and yet they've pursued a course of action that penalises one of its teams to the nth degree. This goes against everything the league should stand for - this could rock the league to its foundations. How can anyone trust them again after this???

There's no way the suspension, draft picks and fine are not revoked after this - there is simply zero grounds for them. What happens after that? Surely Goodell is toast - anyone allowing a witch hunt has to get the boot.

Haste makes waste. They really should be more careful about this kind of stuff.

this "explanation" for the deflator text is laughable

doing more harm than good.....everyone is mocking that silly rationale

"Deflate and give somebody that jkt" makes absolutely no sense in the context of deflating footballs. It makes perfect sense in the context of gaining/losing weight.

Add in the NFL's own Dean Blandino who knew about this and then publicly lied and said he did not.

They didn't wait until someone cried wolf. They clarified within hours.

This guy started a company seeking new treatments for neuromuscular disorders. Kraft invests in many biotech ventures. Remember his drive on the premature aging kids issue?

People worrying about the Kraft group investment should stop. It's a non-issue.
I don't know if the media is going to harp on it but, frankly, that is unacceptably careless. I know they're anxious to get out a rebuttal but, like I said, haste makes waste.

Not disclosing the Kraft donation to that scientists company from the start was a HUGE fckup. People are already throwing everything he said out because of that. ************ Pats, you had a potential slam dunk rebuttal here but you keep giving other people rope for them to hang you.

It unfortunately will be used against them in the court of public opinion.

Although the scientist who pointed out the fact that the Kraft Group invested in his company actually backs up McKinnon's results:

Dr. MacKinnon is exactly right: there is insufficient data nor controlled conditions to draw scientific conclusions on ball psi changes.

It's a mistake, but it's a small one that was quickly repaired. You didn't have the Patriots go on to a telephone conference and keep up the argument. You had a rapid correction.

It's also easy to buttress by simply having another person/group verify the results.

So then they'll just go get 5 other guys that have no affiliation with them that will say the same thing.

But the science doesn't change......... Every REPUTABLE scientist has backed the side of Patriots contention, or at the very least has come out and said the experiment is so flawed that no definitive conclustions can be drawn from it. That is a win, no matter how you slice it.

Do any of these critics have a 401K investment account?? Oh oh!! I'm sure we can uncover all sorts of potentially shady investments they've made...maybe unwittingly...but who cares as long as we've got a cross to burn!
