Gresh out in Sports Hub shakeup

Bingo. Good god, WEEI sucks outside of the afternoon show. I do like Michael Holley and that's really about it.

See, this is the kind of lousy listener that this region is stuck having: Felger and Mazz is the worst show on either station, yet they win their slot. Dale and Holley is the best show on either station. Gresh and Zo are useless outside of football, though Zo is generally a great football listen. Their counterparts are more broadly based, and that's supposed to be a negative to Sport Hub listeners.

Yeah, people trash 98.5 and blame them for WEEI's decline. But I think their management just doesn't have a clue and it was just proven the second they got a real competitor. Whatever 98.5 did for the competition, it didn't make WEEI to put in a stream of uninformed, bland hosts on midday or keep the two angry old men who beat topics into the ground on in the morning or a goofy guy who thinks sports ended in 1978 on nights.

I'm amazed that people are willing to wait an hold on the phone for 45 minutes just to get through and ask Felger and Mazz an opinion on something. You could come here, register in 30 seconds, post, and get an opinion fifty million times more informed in less than 5.

Also lol @ 98.5 playing "highlights" for this douche's send off

Today is the first time I've listen to the show for an extended period of time in a long, long time.
So far the highlight is Mazz

"I admit it. I was talking out of my ass."

Why anyone likes Felger is beyond me ... him and Mazz lead the fellowship of the miserable.

Seriously.

Might as well just hire two random idiots from the old Jets Insider forum and let them bash the hell out of us all football season. Would basically be the same exact show.

They've been a little more pro-Patriots since the Pats won the Superbowl, but that, I'm sure, is only because they know nobody wanted to hear their crap while celebrating a 4th Lombardi. If the Pats lost, they would be in their glory right now about how Tom has to go, Belichick has lost it, and tarnished legacies.

Somewhere along the way - from the birth of the Sports Huddle to now, sports radio hosts got way too self important. In Eddie Andelman's day sports talk was fun, a diversion. Sunday evenings were fun because of Eddie, Mark, and Jim. They openly rooted for the home team, hated the opposition. Now, it seems as guys like Herr Felger and his minions, Tanguay (his getting axed is the best news of all), feel they have a "duty" to uphold and NOT root for the home team. Do they think they're serious "journalists"? I remember the night after the ball went through Buckner's legs the sports huddle, or maybe it was just Eddie, was on till like 4 am....letting fans cry on the radio....that'd never happen today.
Yes those were the days when sports radio was real. I remember when the Huddle was on a thousand watt station WUNR.

I loved listening to The Sports Huddle on Sunday nights, especially when school was in session because
we then would talk about what happened that night on Monday, including trying to remember all the
one-liners that would begin the program while the goofy carnival music would play in the background.

Good times, good times...

Sports radio is mirroring the general demise of other types of mainstream media. I mean, here we are expressing ourselves not on endless telephone hold for EEI or the Sports Hub, but rather on that "series of tubes" known as the Internets (thanks, Al Gore!). I used to listen to Squeaky and the DBag (aka Felger and Mazz) from 2 to 6 on the Sports Hub (mostly during football season) because they were oftentimes challenging to my world view on the Pats. I liked the challenge. Although for the life of me, you have to be the main female character in Fifty Shades of Grey to call that show (Felger is too easily annoyed at both callers and the quality of the phone signal from whence they call). Listening to Felger and Mazz changed for me after Fellategate broke on the heels of a magnificent AFC Championship game, when they took the bait far too easily from BSPN, PFT and that ilk of sensationalized media. Very disappointing. Note to Felger: there's more to disagreeing than simply being disagreeable. So I turned to Michael Holley, who never disappoints. Arnold and Holley had such a better analytical approach to Fellategate, and its aftermath, than Felger and Mazz. And throw in Thornton for a good laugh, and that is what I now listen to in the afternoons when the radio is on.

Gresh and Zo were always a good listen from 10 to 2. But it appears that local CBS radio office politics got the better of Andy. Either that, or Zo is the co-host black widow spider (first Tanguay, then Gresh, now Bertrand. Good luck with that, Marc). Bottom line is that we have a lot of good local sports radio talent. I am sorry to see Gresh depart and wish him well. He handled the last month (knowing he was out after the Super Bowl) with aplomb!

But we shall persevere. Just don't listen to that trio of Brown Shirts in the morning slot at EEI. My Gawd, Attila the Hun is to the left of that bunch. I listen to sports radio for SPORTS, not fascist political ideology, with a point or two about our local sports teams mixed in from time to time. At least Toucher and Rich make me laugh in the morning (which is when you need to laugh, especially after a late night). I'm basically off sports talk radio until the dawn of the new NFL season. In the meantime, I'll get my sports news from over here on the Internets (thanks again, Al Gore!).

I've heard rumors for awhile that Bertrand was well liked over by the big guys on EEI, and they wanted to put him with Holly and Thornton. Sports hub didn't want to loose Beetle, so they put him in the only spot they could have. They weren't gonna break up the 6-10 or the 2-6 shows. Gresh just happened to get the short end of the stick. Me thinks Gresh will be the sports hubs version of Dale Arnold. He'll fill in on all 3 shows whenever a host is out, and he'll still do the Patriots are and post game shows.

I wouldn't mind seeing Matt Chatham get a shot at the radio, He's well spoken, intelligent, and actually thinks before he talks. He's the kind of guy who might actually do so research into a topic before he discusses it and most importantly doesn't think that he's the reason people are tuning in.

Be prepared for Felger's next jihad: Brady is a PED guy. He's hinted at it in the past and in the past few days he's slyly ramped it up. Here we go...

unfortunately, the reason crap shows like Felger and Mazz arise and flourish is because people listen to them. its like the Rabid Right talk radio, where people love to get SO worked up about the president or Hillary. same phenomenon - which is really weird. why enjoy getting pissed off - whether you agree or disagree.

honestly, i put on 98.5 most time i get in my car. usually, i turn it off within 4 minutes because its ignorant and inflamatory. i'd rather lurk on this website for an hour each day and learn.

PS i always enjoyed gresh on the pats post game show with tanguay. he seemed okay and has a fun voice.

Tune I get this idea from listening/watching him. Chatham comes across as a humorless guy who thinks he's the smartest guy in the room. Greg Bedard also comes across that way and I don't care for him either.

So IOW you don't like listening to guys who actually understand the game. I'm fine with that we all have different things that entertain us.

I like Bedard and Chatham, different strokes and all that.

Sports radio, as has most media, evolved into a state where the newsmakers become the news instead of commenting on the news...

Post Superbowl +2, I find myself listening less and less to sports talk, they try to drum up enthusiasm for Hockey and Celtics.. and fail. Nothing more painful than listening to Zolak telling us how outraged we should be about John Lester or Lou Merloni talking football or Benz trying to be edgy... Felger lives on an alternative universe... most of it sux.

So be it. You don't like him, you think his opinions are terrible. A lot of Pats fans hate him.

I have three buddies who listen to 98.5, none are Pats fans (but general Boston sports fans) and they think the show is really good and funny. Just because you hate his guts doesn't make you right about how the Felger/Mazz show is a bunch of lazy horseshit.

You just nailed it on the head, 3 of your non-Pats fan buddies love the show and think it's funny.. probably because... dun Dunn dunnnnnn.. They aren't Pats fans!

I fell for Felger's ******** for awhile, I didn't like him but kept tuning in on the way home from work.. until I finally realized and asked myself why I kept turning them on and the answer was because he kept ****ting on the team all the time and he would get me angry...

And it was working because he was getting my viewership.. but as if I were at an AA meeting:

Hi my name is Matt and I've been clean from that horse manure joke of a show for over a month now.

I love Bertrand ... he's got game ... is insightful and humorous.
I don't want a know it all host like Felger and Mazz.

I want a host who fields the calls and runs good interviews - which is why I like Dale & Holley.

None of these guys offer anything we cannot get expertly elsewhere ...

I really hate Felger and Mazz but when at my desk I watch them ... in the car I listen to WEEI.

Completely agree.

The thing that really gets me about Felger and Mazz is how pompous and arrogant they are. They literally think everything they say is gospel and are constantly rude to people who call in.

They hang up on people in mid sentence who are presenting their point, then just **** all over them with no chance for them to defend themselves.

the show is a total joke and I'm surprised Mazz hasnt had some serious illness constantly shoving his tongue all the way up inside Felger's rectum
